I say why not? your foyer is a good place to display something with heartfelt thanks, that way it doesn't necessarily have to match the decor (if your foyer is like mine, fairly neutral)
and family & friends will be pleased to see it the moment they enter your home :)

If you like it there that's all that matters. Quilts make lovely wall hangings just make sure you hang it right so you don't ruin it.
Something as lovely as a quilt will make your foyer warm and welcoming.

If you have the space, why not! Just make sure it will not be exposed to direct light (will eventually fade and rot the fabric) and that you use a quilt hanger.

family room, hallway to bedrooms or in a bedroom... not in a foyer.....
