My four year old daughter went through all of the normal phases. She was a sweet baby, then a curious one year old, she had the terrible twos, and at three she would push me and her father to the point when we were tearing out our hair. Nothing however compares to the whining! She was coming out of the age where we would bang heads on everything. My husband and I thought we were home free for a while. Then all of this started. She whines about everything. When she doesn't get what she wants, when she does get what she want and every second in between. My husband and I are losing it! What should we do?

Let her know the New Rule is that she will not get anything- including attention- when she whines. She must ask in a grown up girl voice. When my grandson and granddaughter try the whining thing, they get one warning and then it's to the naughty wall where they must sit until they stop whining/crying and can tell me nicely why they were put there and what they wanted to begin with. They very rarely need that now- after very few trips to the wall.

Don't respond when she whines. Tell her simply that if she wants something to tell you without whining. If she whines you will not respond. Then when she whines follow through, ignore her, walk away.
