Obviously for all of you that answered rudely, must have a job.
I am sorry some people have to be so
rude. I say, if you are just looking to get points only to answer. Be careful what you say, it may happen to you then you will become very humble.
We are in a tough job market right now. I know there are jobs out there, and so many, even with a degree aren't paying what they should. I truley believe by not having the minimum wage raised has caused this along with a few other cost factors.
Maybe you could go to job placement company like manpower to get started.
Hey, I've done it all, applied online, Walked right into offices with my resume.
If you are in and looking for the higher paying jobs, I'm in the same boat as you.
It's not a matter of "getting up out of bed and going looking for work" unles you're looking for restaraunt/bar/mcdonalds, etc. work.
It's hard, but keep going. Find the nearest unemployement office to you. Apply for unemployment or just go in and sign in.
They have jobs posted on a bulletin board.
you can always ask for assistance. Social Services in your area also has amazing web sites that I would have never been able to figure out.
I have a class next week where they want me to bring in my resume and they will help me "tweek it" to make it more appealing for my career change.
Since Mortgage Banking is laying off, I am out of it and not going back, so with the experience I have ( alot) but no degrees, I have still the same on the job experience doing the same thing co workers with degrees have done, they just got paid more than me.
So keep your chin up and your nose down and something will come up.
Remember, if you've paid into the system, there is a system out there to help you during your times of need now, use them, that's what they are they for.
Good luck.

There are child labor laws and they are set in place for a reason. And even when a teenager gets a job in fast food there are still restrictions on what they can do. Why you ask? Because most teens are irresponsible and don't pay attention to what they are doing. So then when they get hurt due to their own stupidity their parents sue the company they are working for and ask for millions and millions. What do you need money for anyway? Are your basic needs met? Do you have food to eat? A roof over your head? Clothes on your back? You have it pretty good. There are millions of kids going to sleep tonight that do not have a warm bed to sleep in. They didn't have anything to eat tonight. May not have ate all day long. They have real problems. So you don't have money to throw around and waste. Big deal. Your only options is if someone will pay you to do something like yard work or baby sitting but you already said you won't do that. Good girl. You're gonna fit into the working world really well. Thing is when you are old enough to work more than likley you won't want to work at McDonald's either. You will snarl your face and say I'm not doing that.

You just haven't got lucky yet. I personally was out of work for eight months, took a job that I could 'sell up' on my CV then got a decent job three months later using some creativity at the interview. I never lied but they seemed to assume I had been in the fill-in job all the while I was unemployed. It's easier to be positive in the interview if you are already employed also.
Keep the faith, and keep plugging.

I can't get a job over £12k a year. I'm with an agency at the moment but haven't worked in the past week and still waiting for the phone to ring. I've only worked about 2 months this year.

I am sorry, I don't know.... But I am in the same situation that you are. I have been unemployed since February of this year and just plain cannot get a job. I have tried all of the web sites and news papers. It is very scary right now as far as employment is concerned. Good luck to you!

In the US, you wouldn't have a problem. The unemployment rate is about 2% where I live.

Well, it might be because you make spelling mistakes - a lot of companies won't give you an interview if your application form isn't perfect.
