"Recent studies show that barbecuing or grilling meats and vegetables can lead to cancer over the long run. When you grill something, it burns. As the food is charred, mutagens start to form. These are substances that change the genetic structure of cells.

And as you eat more grilled foods, your exposure to these mutagens increases as well, and your risk of developing cancer escalates with it. Furthermore, when the fats and oils of grilled foods hit the hot charcoals beneath them, the reaction creates a potent carcinogen called benzopyrene. This substance can travel through the smoke and deposit itself in the food you eat.

Don't worry too much though. Generally, the greater your exposure, the greater the risk of developing something nasty. So keep enjoying your grill; just don't char the food too much and limit your barbecues to a maximum of 2 per week.

An additional risk to barbecuing is the danger of gas explosions or flare-ups. A man I know burned his face because he lit the grill the wrong way (he forgot to close the top when igniting the spark to start the flame). In addition to closing the top of the grill, make sure that the gas is not on high. It's not worth losing your skin over food."

I knew but acvtually forgot.

Sure, in the event you consume meals that has been charred. Now not on a gas grill, however a charcoal grill. It's recognized to be carcinogenic. I do not think occaisionally consuming grilled food will harm you, like couple instances per week in the summer. I would not worry about it until that's all you eat!

I have heard that many times. I have also heard that about 1,000 other every day things cause cancer too. Maybe we should all just live in a bubble and eat tofu. That would probably cause cancer too.

I've heard say that you may get CANCER if you ingest too much of the burnt charcoal that forms on the food or that black stuff that comes off the grill and sticks to your food.
Good BBQ doesn't burn and good BBQ cooks keep their grills clean.

yes, it is true. All meat is carcinogenic when cooked at a high temperature due to the nitrate used as preservatives. BBQed onion is toxic.
