My 4 1/2 year old daughter used to have long hair just 3 inch above her bottom. I come to pick her up from Daycare and her hair is chopped to her shoulders. I ask them what happened, they said her hair got stuck in the toilet and cutting her hair was needed. Why couldn't they have just told me, I would have cut her hair myself, and cutting it to her shoulders was way too extreme! This was her first haircut :-(

What should I do about that daycare?

Thanks for your replies

My daughter's was really upset at first, she was crying, she told me that they hurt her, pulled her hair. Btw the cut her hair really bad too, it looked like a toddler did it. I had to cut it even shorter.
She is getting used to the haircut, but misses me braiding her hair :(

She is being cared for by her aunt right now, how am I ever going to learn to trust someone after this?????

I know she is only 4 1/2 but i asked her what really happened. She told me that she was in the bathroom, when a tall lady came in and grabbed her hair a chopped it off. she doesn't recall it being in the toliet. That lady must of did it because she was jealous.

Can I press charges against her?

I would report the daycare. I don't see why they would have to cut off that much hair!!! When I was little my friend went to daycare and they cut her hair for NO reason. I would contact all the parents from that daycare and warn them about what happen... I also am curious about why they did not call you. Something needs to be done about the person that cut her hair as well.. I personally think she should be fired!!!! That's what would be happening if they cut off my daughter's hair like that! I am so sorry this happen to you and your little girl...

I'm not sure what is going on with the daycare workers. Either they are jelous or some underlying problem happened. They probably lied to you because they know the average parent will not beilieve anything there kid says, so they think they could get away with saying it got caught in the toilet. I mean really how can your hair get cought in a toilet?? It's not like your daughter dipped her head inside the bowl and even if she did that it would just float on the water... Something is going wrong here that they aren't telling you about. You should probably talk to a lawyer or something and sue them or something.

This sort of thing happened to one of my little cousins at a church daycare center, but they put her in an emptied non working fridge and told her there were monsters in there and they put her in and shut the door and left her in there! It probably wasn't long but enough to freak her out. She came home and mentioned to her parents she was put in a refrigerator and so the next day they had her show them the fridge she was put in and it was an emptied out non working fridge!! I think they ended up contacting a lawyer or something and it ended up that the daycare lady had a bad background and she ended up being put in jail!

I hope you find out what really happened and I hope you and your family stay safe. Good luck!

I had a daycare worker grease up my child's head and put a million beads in it so I kinda know where you're coming from (my daughter's biracial and she's never had her spiral curls GREASED!) I was so angry and I felt betrayed and hurt. You have to understand that not all daycares are the same. First of all you can report them to the Better Business Bureau you can also do some research online if there's a recommendation site for daycares in your area post in the forum what happened to warn other moms. Cafe Mom (www.cafemom.com) helps I also belong to a myspace page that helps me www.myspace.com/hotmomsclub
Also...daycares really are best for her they'll help her socially and get her ready for preschool. It's gonna be more rough on you but you should put her in another one. Ask her (insert name here) how did your hair get stuck in the potty? Show mama (on your toilet at home) ALSO when you find another daycare and you're doing the paperwork tell the Director do not touch her hair without calling me no matter what I must be notified before anything on her body gets altered from how I brought her. Trust me I had to say this to the new daycare. Do not touch my daughter's hair without calling me and how I brought her had better be how I pick her up. Good luck!

You got to ask "So what if her hair got caught in the toilet. All of her hair??
It would have got wet.
Stuck? Explain yourself in cutting it all?."
These are questions I would put forth to the daycare expecting full and correct answers.
They had "no right" to do anything to your child. How do they know.....it might have been against your religious faith to cut the hair. It is not for them to decide.

Besides, the first haircut. That is something a mother SHOULD GET TO DO and keep. What did they do with the hair? Flush it away?
They violated your child.
Are you looking for financial compensation? Don't think that will happen. But other issues can be raised as to how they disipline the children there.

Wow. That is just wrong. If her hair truly did get stuck in the toilet, they should have only cut what they needed to. I'm sure she didn't get all of her hair stuck up to her shoulders. That's ridiculous. You need to find a new daycare now!!! Maybe you could sue them for emotional distress!

Wow. Your daughter's hair got STUCK IN THE TOILET and you're worried that they cut it too short.

Could you have been to the day care in five minutes or less? Just how long would you have wanted your daughter to wait hung up on a toilet? Do you think that maybe it was getting stuck on the toilet that hurt, and not them cutting her hair?

I understand your sadness and disappointment about her hair being cut, but you don't seem to be at all concerned for her safety. What is more important to you, your daughter's looks or her health?

**edit*
I know that a lot of the other respondents think it's not possible for a kid to get all her hair stuck in a toilet, but trust me, kids do really weird stuff. Imagine this: your daughter and her friends take the top off the tank of the toilet and look inside. Her hair gets into the tank and someone flushes. He hair is totally wrapped around the levers and chains inside the tank, and some has gotten trapped down the drain. She starts screaming bloody murder and thrashing around. Her friend runs and hides. What would you do?

Wow! that is terrible, I would be really upset myself. I would try and find another daycare to take my daughter too. They should have called you before cutting her hair the way they did.

Properly I'm a boy but I consider on us boys, short hair is always better. Long hair doesn't CONSTANTLY show a sign of dominance. An individual see most other guys with long hair that doesn't look like they will can fight. For example there is a boy in my school along with very long blonde hair.

How does hair get stuck in the toilet anyway? And what about a phone call to you BEFOREhand? I would fire the daycare!

How's your daughter doing with this?

Good luck! (:
