Duh!
Who isn't? You'd get a cookie if you can tell me who does anything to worsen their lives. Obviously people do things to better themselves, it's the MEANS of getting there that's the problem.
People steal, rob, murder, even rape in the name of 'better their lives' and 'pursuit of happiness'. How is immigration tolerable under this argument?

Christine, federal taxes don't do us anything, so i dont care if illegals don't pay it, but local and state taxes are what fund our services that are shared to them, so that's taking away.
And don't get me started on 'they don't work jobs we wanted anyway'.

Drug addicts are not masochists, they think they're making themselves happier. Similarly, illegal immigrating can also result in bad things that were not expected by the immigrant. But its obvious people do things for their short run or long run benefits, even pleasure.

There's plenty of people who self destruct. Drug addicts, alcoholics, and people who hurt themselves physically. It seems like if worsening their lives is what most celebrities are good at.
Where's my cookie?
Asides from that, theres a big difference between illegally entering a country, and commiting a crime upon somebody else.

Very very few people support illegal immigration. The anti-immigration people have done a great job in controlling the words used to define the debate. The debate should really be about whether there should be more legal immigration or not.
Suppose we didn't have national borders. Then there would be nothing wrong with moving somewhere to get work. We encourage people to move from state to state within the US to find better working conditions all the time.
Immigration is tolerable, so long as fraud is not involved, because what it really involves is for two people to make a business arrangement that is mutually beneficial. If Coke decided to cut its prices to sell more soda, would Pepsi have any right to complain that this was unfair, because they would either have to cut their prices or lose business? If you take bids on having work done on your house, and three US citizen contractors all give you different prices, do you think the guy who offers to do it cheapest is a bad person because he's taking food out of the mouths of the other two? Consider your answers when you think about whether it's fair to deny people the opportunity to immigrate legally just because they might work for less money.

Christine, how can you look at our schools and county hospitals and insurance rates in areas where illegal immigrants concentrate and say they aren't hurting anyone?
And Thomas, the problem with your argument is that there are people not at the negotiating table who both pay into the services and subsidize the cheap labor yet need to use the services and are most dramatically hit by the failure of these services, and whose wages and benefits are concurrently undercut by this cheap labor they are subsidizing to live here. An amendment was proposed to the Senate Bill that would have required business to pay for a HIGH DEDUCTIBLE health insurance for their employees under the new guest worker program, at least making the employer take SOME of the externalized cost (although education is a much bigger cost in money AND impact) and the amendment was voted DOWN.
Business wants to embezzle payment for undercutting our labor from the services we use and subsidize. Business gets a high return in the shape of having wages be the smallest percentage of gross domestic profit since World War II (and before that was the Great Depression.) We taxpayer / workers only get the damage done, with some lowering of cost in consumer goods we no longer have any business purchasing with reduced wages, if we are to plan at all for the future, given drained services.
You can't steal from the many to cut a bargain that benefits only those not paying and a select minority who make money from the deal and call it a level playing field negotiation. There are very good reasons for limits on immigration, which is why we have them.

I think you mean illegal immigration. It is not particularly more tolerable because of the reasons for doing it. This is not an argument for or against illegal immigration, it is merely a reason.

We all are trying to better are lives. You don't need to tell us that . How ever we also (most people) follow the laws. We aren't here illegally if this is what your point is trying to mean. If they want the American dream and to better there lives then they should do it legally with a legal social security card, pay tax and not have to lie to get somewhere. DUH!

Illegal invasion isn't tolerable under this argument. In my opinion, it's just a simple attempt at a justification.

How can you be mad at someone who is trying to support their family and make their childrens lives better? I understand where you are coming from, however, the immigrants are not hurting anyone, or taking anything from anyone. Its true that people will say "well they are taking our jobs". Well lets be honest. Its not like they can get top of the line jobs here! They are not CEO's of companys, the jobs they are doing, are jobs a LOT of Americans are way too lazy to do and feel are too good to do. And then some argue that they don't pay taxes like "us legal Americans". Okay, well your going to have to pay taxes either way. Its like when your growing up and your parents tell you that you have to do something and you say "well my friends don't have to do that" and your parents are like too bad! Life's not fair and you are going to be paying the SAME AMOUNT OF TAXES whether or not the immigrants are here. I say leave them alone. You send them back and guess what? They make NO money no matter how hard they try, they cannot support their families and their children go hungry. Why would someone want children to go hunfry just because "its not fair that they are illegal" Give me a break. Don't compare immigrants to murderes and rapists.
How can I say that its not hurting anyone? Because its not! Honestly people, your taxes and everything else is NOT going to change just because we get rid of them, and you all know this. You will find something else to complain about if its not them. Let people live! Where are your morals all you selfish people?

I agree, but do you know that our government through the Hope fund of 2007 is giving LaRaza 5 million this year and 10 million next year for aid in helping hispanics, with our tax dollars.
