Discriminate has two meanings

The first is simply to recognize that two people, things or ideas are different. It would be insane if we didn't do this - you'd end up buying a pint of lager for a baby or giving one of your drinking friends a rattle.

The second is to treat different people (or groups) differently in identical circumstances. I try not to in general, although I'm sure I fail on occasions. But even with this one there are forms of discrimination which are positive and worthwhile - offering a seat to the elderly or pregnant* is discrimination, for example.

(*Although with the pregnant thing you have to be careful. Jimmy Carr said something like, "I don't offer my seat to pregnant women. I could be wrong and I'd rather see a pregnant woman standing than a fat one sitting down crying).

Sure, just now I had some Tropicana orange juice, which is definitely superior to the Kroger brand.

Discrimination is simply recognizing and acting on differences that make a difference. If a difference does not make a difference (e.g., the color of a person's skin), then discrimination is unjust as well as foolish.

I really, truly hope that I do not nor ever will discriminate against any one -skin color,religion.nationality---etc.
I am a white skinned, catholic ,female, older American. I probably do make some choices based upon those things---I hope and pray that I have never hurt anyone in that way !

Do you mean like you discriminate and make fun of those of us who are Christians?
I don't. I don't make fun of other religions. I don't verbally attack atheists.

I don't ask "questions" that are attacks in disguise.

You have asked several questions this morning that are hurtful to me. You've called us liars, among other things.

You might want to think and be honest. You are pretty prejudiced and are discriminating against us.

Sure, but it is most of the time as an act of war. In times of peace or within my own community I am against discrimination.

Of course I do. If you are talking about making decisions about what foods are good, or what movies I see I have to discriminate. If you are talking about racial or religious prejudice, I have to admit I do sometimes, though I fight against it. Its very difficult to not make judgments on people based on these things. I am not proud of that part of me.

Do I discriminate between what and which!?
Not normally, but one thing is for sure, I haven`t the least idea of what you are on about.
How people can answer this, I don`t know. They must be clairvoyant!

I try not to but there are some people I try to stay clear of, which I don't think is discrimination.

Every hour of every day. I check my milk to see if it's expired. If in doubt, I smell it. If it's bad, I throw it away. I'm very discriminating that way.

I check to see if the traffic signal is red or green. If it's red - I discriminate against entering into the intersection.

I call it common sense, actually.
