Bring water in big kettle (enough to cover the corn) to a boil. Add ears of corn and bring to a boil again. Then start to time it and boil for 6-7 minutes. the secret to tender kernels is more the corn you start with. It shouldn't be overly mature. Hard to describe in words and is somewhat a personal preference The "two toned" varieties tend to be very tender. One is called "peaches and cream".

Put ear(s) of corn into rapidly boiling water, making sure there is enough water to completely cover the ears. Boil for 7/8 minutes and enjoy perfectly tender ears of corn!

Corn on the cob is much like an egg in a way.
The longer they cook, (boil) the harder they get.
I have an easy way with that though.
Put whole cobs in a plastic bag and fold over, placing them bag and all in a microwave.
On high, let them microwave for one minute per corn cob.
3 cobs=3 minutes
Soon you will have the best corn on the cob you have ever tasted

I haven't boiled corn in over 10 years - I always fix on the grill right along with my meat. Just clean & wash corn, then spread with butter or herb butter, wrap in foil & grill til the foil starts to turn a copper color - turning often with tongs.....
If you are going to boil instead of grill, I would think about 10 minutes at the top - you don't want it mushy, but with a little life still in the corn......

another option - clean the silks from the corn, but don't remove the husks. Fold back up the husks after cleaning and soak in a pot of water for 30 minutes. Place corn on hot BBQ grill and close the lid. Corn will steam itself on the grill for about 20 minutes and become a bright yellow (and/or white depending on your corn).
Remove from grill, remove the husks (husks should be charred). Brush corn with a mixture of melted butter, minced garlic, and splash of lemon juice and thyme. Place on grill for a quick minute or two, then serve....YUM!!

I no longer boil corn, I microwave with the husks on and it turns out perfect every time. It's easier to remove husk and silks, taste fresher and is so good. Try microwaving for about 2 min. per ear, can microwave more at the same time, but adjust cooking time. If they are not cooked thoroughly increase time.

If you want it real mealty, steam it to cook it just enough to cook it. (10 minutes or so.) To steam it, just put the corn in a pot with a litle bit of water. It will cook much faster that way and it won;t lose all of its flavor that way. Then soak it in warm butter and butter milk for an hour or so.It will soften up that way
