Wander thru the produce department at your local market - almost anything can be put into a salad! Try darker greens - like romaine or leaf lettuce, baby spinach, or if you want a peppery kind of kick, arugula. (You'll also get more nutrients that way!)

Next look at some other veggies. I personally use cucumbers (the seedless Kirby ones are my favorites) peppers (red, yellow, and orange look cool, but they're often more expensive than the green ones.) carrots (I like the preshredded ones, since I can never make 'em that small!), and snow peas (AKA pea-pods.) Radishes have a peppery bite. Tomatoes - the grape or cherry ones don't get your salad all wet. Onions. Broccoli. Caulflower. Cooked and cooled Beets. Whatever looks good to you that day.

Next come the add-ins. To add a little protein and make your salad more of a meal - try a little grilled chicken or steak (steak on a spinach salad ROCKS.) or grilled salmon. Hard boiled eggs. A little lowfat shredded cheese. (NO more than a couple of tablespoons.) Try some dried cranberries and walnuts or almonds. Sunflower seeds. (Again, only a little!)

Change up the dressing a little. If you're a Ranch kind of person, try a Ceasar or a Parmesan Peppercorn, if you only use Italian, try a Balsamic Vinigriette or a Raspberry Vinigriette. Try not to do fat-free though, some of the nutrients in the veggies are fat soluable, meaning they need some fat in order for your body to use them. What's the point of eating healthy if you can't use the nutrients?

Good luck and experiement a little! =)

Base salads on different greens, like spinach, endive, romaine or even on cabbage. Add something colorful (not green) like carrot, red pepper. Get in there and start experimenting with every vegetable that can possibly be eaten raw. Try creating your own dressings from scratch in the blender. Your library probably has a lot of cookbooks, bring a few home and explore.

Make you a list of the raw vegetables you like, pick the ones that sound good with a salad.

I like grilled chicken on my salad.

I like to grill onions, peppers, and mushrooms and chicken and put that on top of iceburg lettuce, tomatoes, a little sour cream instead of dressing.

first of all, get rid of the iceburg and go with a better salad blend, you can add spinach leaves too. at the very least use romaine instead of the iceburg, its crap! you have good suggestions for other additions, i also l ike to add grapes sometimes

Add veggies. You can almost use anything in salad. A basic one usually has tomato, cucumber, onions in it...maybe croutons or cheese. A bowl of iceberg is not really even a salad. It's just lettuce. Look up salad recipes.

Sing and dance while you make them?
Put some more stuff in there. Grab a carrot, cucumber, tomato, bacon bits, whatever you want, and throw it in. Change up your salad dressing. Live on the edge.

Use a 40% alcohol dressing -well, its not really a "dressing" it's really just an excuse to drink more -- but it does make everything more exciting doesn't it?
