I don't agree that anyone against the war in Iraq should mistreat the military, but Liberals in the past, during Vietnam spit upon Soldiers. If they tell the truth, they know they did. I think they want to bury that history.
I cannot tell you what I would do, because none of it would be "legal".

Some of you, just don't know your history, and you know who you are.

Showtunes says, Conservatives lied during the Vietnam war to go to war...

Does he know who started the Vietnam war, who was in complete control of the Congress, then? Lyndon B Johnson, a LIBERAL, and Congress was Democratically ruled, SIRS, and ma'ams!
Richard Nixon ended Vietnam, a Republican. No wonder America is getting closer to accepting America becoming Socialist by Libs, they're misguided and uneducated! They must of bought the BS off of their Liberal parents who cared more about how that acid paper made them feel while they were out getting pregnant by some hairy guy at Woodstock!

These days, soldiers run around in packs, so I dont think I would have to do anything other than cheer the soldiers on while they "fix" the situation. I swear if that ever happens to me, I will not be held liable for my actions!

Anybody who spits on any other person really needs to grow up and get a life. I don't consider myself conservative or liberal but more on both sides on certain issues. Being in the military is job, just like being a teacher, a preacher a doctor, lawyer, etc. I also think we have come a long way in terms of being sure our troops are supported better than they were during Vietnam. I know MANY liberal friends, and none of them would even consider spitting on a Soldier/Marine/Airmen/Sailor. I think its more or less the very radical thinkers who do dumb stuff like that, in fact most of the ones that do that crap probably dont vote, so they CAN'T have a political label like Liberal. But yeah, I wouldn't blame a soldier for taking action, in fact Id prolly help the guy out and make the person doing the spitting look and feel not so good anymore. Profiling someone is Illegal anyway.

If you actually go back to the anti war movement, a major part of what ended the war was the part that the gi's played, tens of thousands went AWOL or participated in demonstrations, some even killed commanders in an effort to end the carnage, a major reason that nixon switched to an air based war was because he couldn't trust the ground troops to continue fighting. Go do some research, the facts are out there. The whole spitting thing was started after the war as a conservative smear campaign that unfortunately caused people to forget the great piece that soldiers had in ending the Vietnam war, there is a book written as well, solely dedicated to this issue of the spitting protesters, in his years of research he came to find that this truely was an isolated and rare sort of incident. The book is "The Spitting Image" by Jerry Lembcke. Check it out.

Yes, liberals did that during the Vietnam War, but if you'll notice it doesnt often happen today.

Conservatives during the Vietnam War lied to go to war, disgraced the White House and country with their lack of respect for our laws, stood on a platform of morality while being terrible immoral, promoted a secretive gov't that goes against the very nature of our country, etc. Should we assume youre doing these things again today? Damn...you are!

There is no desire to bury our history. Im proud of how far we've come. Hopefully you can learn from our example and stop doing such disgraceful things to our country as well.
___

Edit:

That was actually kind of fun. Just so you know, LBJ didnt start the war either, he just gets all the blame for it.

The groundwork for the Vietnam was laid by Eisenhower, a Republican. The lies needed to get it going were Eisenhower's lies, LBJ just believed them.

Eisenhower would have gone himself, he just had better people advising him than JFK or LBJ.
Both parties were involved in lying to get us into Vietnam, LBJ was just the last person to lie about it. However, my goal was to point out what the Conservatives did wrong, not the Liberals. Its very well known what liberals did wrong at that time, its high time the Conservatives get some of the blame for their portion of it too.

Youre right though, I should have been more clear on that. LBJ did lie to get us there, but so did Ike. Just like Ike lied to us to assassinate random leaders around the globe and to try to covertly take over foreign nations (ie. the Congo).

Also, Nixon did not end Vietnam, he just pulled out of it. There is a huge difference, especially since he was planning on going back in as soon as he could do so with popularity.

Side note: Neither of my parents did drugs, both are conservative and were at the time. Neither agrees with my view of the gov't, but they respect it.

If anyone spit on another person in my presence, I would be very upset, even if someone spit on you. Liberals and non-liberals have come a long way since the 1960's--it didn't take long to figure out that blaming the troops was stupid. Soldiers are just doing a job that our government commands them to do. Maybe it's time for you to move on past the 60's...

I see that some are still in denial about events of the past.

The first time I was spit on was July 1976 at SFO. Had just been released from active duty. As I left the terminal a man and woman came towards me screaming "baby killer". The woman was slapping at me and spitting. 2 of SF's finest put them down and sent me on my way before I could get my duffel bag off my shoulder

I spent several years in a reserve unit at Presidio San Francisco. I quit counting the number of times people spit on my feet and called me a "baby killer".

Was asked twice in job interviews "how many babies did you kill?" by women. One guy asked what it was like to squeeze off a round into a VC. This is a good spot to point out that I was never in VietNam, wore no medals to indicate such. Did not wear a patch on my right shoulder as I was never in combat. My resume indicated Germany as my only duty station, because that is were I was.

In 1969 my cousin, SSG Larry Houston Cooke, was KIA in VietNam. His parents received 2 calls from people telling them the "baby killer" deserved to die.

You morons that claim these things never happened could not possibly know just because you did not do it . Just as I am also sure that it did not happen to every person in uniform.

What would I do if a liberal spat on an American soldier? I'd do exactly the same thing if a conservative spat on an American soldier: Hold him while said soldier beats the living crap out of him.

Or alternatively, stand back while the soldier beats him down. Then point and laugh when he's done. =P

Spitting seems to be the way a Liberal thinks you can defeat someone ? Spitting is their cowardly way of believing they are "scaring" someone into submission ! If they were a fighting force in small groups , send them to the front lines and call them "Spit-toons", instead of Platoons !

Well I would probably go nuts, but when I got back from Iraq one of my soldiers got spit on at a walmart.
He kept his cool and several people at the walmart started yelling at her and chased her out of the parking lot.

I'm just glad to see people supporting our troops.

I dare someone to spit on my husband, or any other service member. I would be in alot of trouble if I saw someone spit on out troops.

My great uncle was in Vietnam, and he was spit on once in the airport.

My uncle was a POW in Korea. They ripped his nails off and did who knows what else to him.

I'll be dam*ed if someone spits on our great military members and gets away with it.
