To carry that many animals, the ark would have had to have been larger than several aircraft carriers...and there is a maximum size that wooden structures can reach. The Spanish Galeon was about as big as a wooden vessel could get without snapping un half under its own mass. The more you look at the tale of the ark, the more you have to invoke magic to make the tale work. Simply put: It's a fairy tale. A myth. No ark, no noah, no object on a mountain in Turkey (It's a rock formation, as many expeditions have discovered since it was detected. The tale refuses to die.)

Noah's Ark
Everything I need to know,

I learned from Noah's Ark.

ONE: Don't miss the boat.

TWO: Remember that we are all in the same boat.

THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

SIX: Build your future on high ground.

SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.

TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

ELEVEN: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

Probably big enough to collapse under its own weight.

edit: this is interesting

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyoming_(Schooner)

Because of the extreme length of the Wyoming and its wood construction, it tended to flex in heavy seas, which would cause the long planks to twist and buckle, thereby allowing sea water to intrude into the hold (see sagging and hogging). The Wyoming had to use pumps to keep its hold relatively free of water. In 1924, it foundered in heavy seas and sank with the loss of all hands.

Note that this is SMALLER than the biblical ark. The ark, if it did exist, would need constant pumping and repairs to survive a 40 day flood. One small family would never keep it a float, especially not without modern technology.

The problem that everybody seems to be over looking on this theoretical exercise is that it's too big to be steered by hand and it has no sails , so how did Noah keeps the arks nose pointed into the waves to prevent broaching ? He has no power and he has no steering ;he's dead in the water.
Vessels that are dead in the water in big seas tend to wiind up on the bottom.

Genesis 6:14-16
verse 14 And God said to Noah, "Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch."

verse 15 "And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits."

verse 16 "You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks."

1.00000 Cubit = 18.89764 Inches

As for the animals:

Genesis 6: 19
verse 19 And God said to Noah, "And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort in to the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female."

Genesis 7: 2-3
verse 2 And God said to Noah, " You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female."

verse 3 " also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of the earth."

"And God said unto Noah, . . . Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this [is the fashion] which thou shalt make it [of]: The length of the ark [shall be] three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; [with] lower, second, and third [stories] shalt thou make it. " (Gen. 6:13-16)

A cubit is the distance between an adult's elbow and tip of the finger, generally 18-inches. Most scholars believe the cubit to have been between 17½ -21½ inches long. This means that the ark would have been 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high if the 18 inch cubit was used. If a larger cubit was used it would have been proportionately larger.

The displacement tonnage of the ark, which is the weight of water it would displace at a draught of 15 cubits, would be more than 22,000 tons. By comparison the U.S.S. Salem, a 716-foot-long heavy cruiser commissioned in 1949, has a displacement tonnage of 21,500 tons. The ark's gross tonnage which is a measure of cubic space (100 cubic feet is one gross ton) would be 15,100 tons. The ark's total volume would have been 1,518,000 cubic feet. This would equal the capacity of 569 modern railroad stock cars. The standard size for a stock car is 44 feet long and a volume of 2670 cubic feet. This would make a train more than 5 ½ miles long. The floor space for the ark would be over 101,000 square feet. This would be more floor space than 21 standard college basketball courts. By comparing the measurements of the ark it is easy to see that it would be comparable to today's ocean going vessels. It was probably the largest vessel of its type built until the late 1800's when metal ships were first constructed.

I agree with cmw's answer.

There are a few thousand kinds of animals.
Plus you can take babies.

The size is about 450 ft long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.

I don't have the link of it, but I've been reading some calculations about the subject, and they prove Noah must have had a multiply of arks to do what the bible says he's done. It's just not possible.

As outlined in genesis 6...
450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high
That's big enough isn't it?
