I'm really going to think about moving the bible to the side, and concentrating on my love for God but not the Biblical version of him.

Anyone else feel this way? is their a name for that? or am I just a 'theist' a believer in God.

I feel about the same, I feel a strong connection with God, but I am in disagreement with many the practices, beliefs, and rules of church. Christianity, has and always will be used as a means to control other people. There is too much human interest involved, too many questionable motives etc. Spirituality is a personal experience, and if you follow what you believe in, and let God guide you down your own path you will ultimately arrive somewhere that is much more spiritually rewarding then if you were to submit yourself to the questionable rules and ways of the church.

Saying that, I do see the merits in being with others that share your love for God.

Feel comfortable with what you feel, I would like to suggest you feel it for a reason. I think us humans have to trust our own feeling a lot more, I seems to me that our feelings are Gods (the universe, whatever you want to believe) way of communicating to us and sending us in the right direction. Some people might call this the Holy Spirit, or your Higher-Self. I am not entirely sure what I believe, but I know that so far listening to my instincts has been very beneficial for my spiritual development and my connection with God.

I am not a so called believer in God. I believe their is something greater than us out there, but whether God is real I do not know. I think the main reason for this, how could God, if he exists, let such terrible things happen on Earth. For example, murderes, peadophiles, suicide bombers, disease, natural disasters etc. Some people may say it is to punish humans for what Adam and Eve did [eating an apple from The Garden] but I thought that his punishment to humans for this was for men to have to work, and women to give birth painfully. I certainly do not follow the bible route, in fact i may not even follow the christian route but I do believe there is some kind of God or Special being out there, whether they are alive or dead.

I'm Native American. I believe in God firmly but not as those who seek him through the bible do. I honestly believe the best relationship with God, is a personal one: heart to heart, without outside influences. God gave us the gift of this life, we should be comfortable with God's day to day discression. Remember this: "No structure of wood and stone can completely contain the the Kingdom of God, for The Kingdom is within us and all around us. Split a piece of wood and you will find it. Pick up a stime and there it is."

Being Native American, my bible is the wind and all of the elaments. Set a Christian bible out on a doorstep and you will see in time that my bible of the wind and natural elaments will devour the book.

You can believe in God and not follow the Bible but that doesn't make you right. you can't have a relationship with the Almighty and follow His Words. Thats like saying I'm a brain surgeon but I never studied or read anything. Would you trust some one like that???? The same applies. You can't have it both ways, just because 'you' don't like something doesn't mean you have to dismiss it.
How can you not love the Biblical version of Him? Oh wait a minute...I know why! You haven't actually met the true God, the One that sent His Son Jesus to die on a cross for you and rose again from death. Now when you have trust me you will fall in love in a way you have never fallen in love before.

You're not alone in your feelings. Yes it sounds like you're just a Theist. I've also done a similar thing and am a now a Platonist. Much of Christianity's theology is derived from Plato and Platonism. Being a Platonist is like having God without Jehovah & the Bible.

You need to realize that your interpretation of the scripture may be wrong. What you think you are reading may not be so. The Bible is a whole...it is meant to be seen in the 3-D sense. It is multi-layered and the true meanings of the scripture require a knowledge of history, Greek, Hebrew, theology etc.

There are many things in the Old Testament that have greater meaning and foreshadow the New Testament in many ways. To just read the words and decide that they mean what you think is short sighted. There is much to know and learn. I would not put the Bible aside...but delve deeper seeking the true meaning. Read more then the Bible, read the ancient fathers of the Church, read the great theologians past and present.

A man who knows his scripture, languages and history is Scott Hahn. Read some of his stuff...his insight will help you understand scripture. http://www.salvationhistory.com/

I'm one of those people who believes in God but rejects the organized religion used to support the beliefs because they are a reflection of man's flaws (racism, sexism and misanthropism) written by man himself, NOT God, NOT Jesus.

Organized religion in our country has become distressing and even dangerous, and as unchristian in content as Satan worship, just in a different direction. There are more rational ways to control people and that is what religion is all about.

As I was taught, "the nearer to church, the further from God."

i agree! i am a christian and i put all my trust in God, but there are some things in the bible that i dont agree with and that i find hard to believe!
Bottom line is God loves each and every one of us. it is our choice to believe in him.

I think the sex before marriage rule is silly too. i hav some christian friends who got married at the age of 18 because of the pressures of sex. i think God would be much happier if a couple slept together out of wedlock and took their time to get to know each other and were happy rather than rush into marriage and further down the line realise they aren't going to work and have to go through the heartbreak of divorce.

Its dowen to us really. he may have created us but we are our own person and we believe what we choose. Just stick with God and keep him in your life :-)

The Bible is too complicated and there is more than one version which adds more confusion. So i don't need any of that to believe in God.
