I am 24 years old female who just recently had a csection Aug 18. Within a week and a half of my delivery I have had gallbladder problems. Terrible pain in my upper back and chest; I have went to the ER and they told me that it may be caused by my recent surgery. Is this true? Will it go away? They told me if it is persistant I need to get a MRI. I have had 3 attacks so far and my son is only 2 weeks 2 days old. SO, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced gallbladder problems after a surgery and if so... did the pain just go away on its own or did it require surgery? Thanks for your responses.

They did an ekg on me because I have a heart condition and checked to see if my heart condition has changed in the past year and it had not. Also, they did chest xray to look for clot in lungs and also did some other blood work to check for clots. The attending ER doc has gallbladder issues too and everything I was describing to her was basically the same she experiences; wanting to curl up in a ball etc etc.... I also had a similar attack after having my first son after a csection when he was 2 months old and never had another attack until now. Also, they never mentioned anything about a spinal problem. Maybe something to do with my spinal tap I had for my csection????

How do you know your symptoms are due to gall bladder disease? Did they do an ultrasound and see gall stones? Pain in the upper back and chest is not really typical of gall bladder disease. There is no reason why a caesarian section should cause pain the upper back or chest either. If they are suggesting an MRI then the chances are they are thinking about a spine problem.

Vinnay K is right, something for you to think about. While you're at it consider getting a second opinion.

But anyway, i had a gallbladder attack once at the age of 21 and I think they were because I took some bad, mail order diet pills.

It hurt like hell, made me sick, it ran it's course after a day or two with medication (pain killers and suppositories lol) and never came back. I didn't have to get the thing removed either.

you need to see your GP and have him refer you to a General Surgeon who will take it out. Sooner or later it needs to be out or you will be miserable the rest of your life. Oh and actually Vinay is wrong. Chest and back pain can be gallbladder. That is exactly how they found mine. I had severe chest, shoulder, and back pain for a week straight before they realized what it was.
