It was simply a unique situation where sponsors came together to have the race in another nation and NASCAR was able to put the travel logistics together for the drivers.

Even today, where NASCAR is taking aim at a global marketing strategy, there is concern expressed by drivers/teams on travel outside the 48 states....which also doomed the racing in Japan which happened years back.

It was an exhibition race IE non point and not regular schedule just as race in Japan was and one that is potentially planned for Britian in 08. As to Nascar, well there are Nascar type races in many countrieas such as Cascar in Canada. To add international races would have to take races from American tracks (Nascar's) home or go to 52 weeks of racing which isn't going to happen.

The cost of shipping the cars and crew over seas, and the time involved was most of the trouble. Australia has a great racing program there such as we do here, They have their DEI and Gorden's, we just don't hear much about them because of the promotion losses being over seas.
