What is an inverting summer circuit and how does it work?

It's an op-amp circuit with input voltages V1, V2....Vn, input resistors R1, R2..... Rn, and a feedback resistor Rf. It's transfer function is
Vout = -Rf(V1/R1 + V2/R2 + .....Vn/Rn)
If you understood my answer about inverting amplifiers, this should be no problem to understand.

Yeah these circuits are used in audio conditioning applications. Sometimes people use them to add various audible signals and amplify the sum a.k.a. a mixer.
You can find monolithic (all one package) solutions as well but first google for a schematic for a simple DC case. My $0.02
