Yes, it was a pentecostal church and i grew up in a very reserved baptist church. Having people shouting out in the service was very scary to me.
I'm not judging them, they have the right to worship as they wish, I just was not used to it.

Looking back, all of the church services I was brought to as a child were scary.
Specifically scary is the idea that, if you asked every person exiting the church after the service is over what the sermon had been about, 90% wouldn't have a clue, because most of them think it's enough just to be there and bob up and down and sing along, so they don't even bother to listen.
Of course, the idea of them actually listening to teachings from the Old Testament and acting upon them is equally scary...

Not necessarily a "regular" sort of church service, but I would imagine that witnessing an actual EXORCISM would be kinda freaky, don't you think??
I've never actually been to one yet, but I've heard some stories about it as a child and I saw that movie, too. Now THAT is scary!
LOL.
Peace be with you.

I hate when preachers act like the church service is a WWE wrestling match and try to make you fall down on the ground.... In the name of the lord! I've actually felt preachers try and wrestle me to the floor before!! I think it's because they like to have their ego boosted... it makes them feel as if they have a lot of power or annointing or whatever. Anyway.. that's my scary experience.

Yes.
I looked around the room when everyone was repeating after the minister some recitation of faith (like some version of the Nicene creed). The minister would say a phrase, then everyone would repeat it - in some monotone voice, expressionless, thoughtless, like obedient robots, like they were being brainwashed. I looked around and I thought to myself, so, this is how they keep their sheep in the flock, this is scary; this is not for me.

I went with one of my friends because her host family always forced her to go and she wanted company.
It started out normal, just having a discussion about God, but somehow once the music started going and all, people went a bit....overexcited?
I was just taken aback when people started jumping up and down in the isles, and yelling and shouting, praying in really loud voices (did they not think God could hear them???) and falling down on the floor. It was just too much.
The scarier thing was, when we were leaving, my friend said "That was one of their boring services."
This church also claims that gay people are responsible for Hurricane Katrina and...all kinds of bat crazy stuff.

Since I have been an atheist I've been to church services that made me think about morality and what my obligation to others is. I wouldn't say it scared me, but it made me think.
It also made me angry when they mixed politics w/ religion.
