Why are some speedometers different in the same model of cars?

unfortunaly speedometers are not how fast a car can actually go. The speed rating of the tires are. So manufactures put better tires on 350Z that are capable of 150 miles an hour and the Nissan sets the top speed limiter on the engine control system at 145 miles an hour. To many law suits would happen if a customer took out a car and the tire overheated at 150 miles an hour and blew out. There ways to get around the speed limiter but anyone caught by police at 145 miles an hour needs a bail bonds man anyway. Then $1,000's to get the drivers licence back.

The stock 350z is speed limited to 250km/h or about 170 miles per hour.

A tuned 350z was filmed at speeds of above 315km/h during a Nevada open road challenge before it blew a tyre and barrel rolled twenty times. Look it up on youtube, it has the file name "nissan 350z R top sped run 367.89km/h"

usually the performance models have higher speedometer readings than the run of the mill models...a nissan z might hit 150 if it was being pulled by a Shelby GT500..LOL
