Why are gay people kill themselves over 3 times more often than straight people do?

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimated 3 that "as many as 30% of completed youth suicides each year" are performed by gays and lesbians.

I heard my version somewhere else but this is what I came up with after a quick Googling.

This is a wonderful question, and some of the answers given are great examples of exactly why gay people kill themselves. Because we're sinners? No. Because we are abominations in God's eyes? Nope. Because we realize that our love cannot possibly hold a candle to the love that a man and a woman share in God (and then snuff out with the rising rate of divorce in this country) and feel guilty? Wrong again. No, so many of us kill ourselves because, as someone else said, the fact of who we are NATURALLY is so hard for others to accept that they must, in response to their calling as good Christians, use every weapon in their arsenal to make damn sure we hate ourselves as much as they hate us. It has less to do with shame, I think, than with the simple fact that the "Church" has become a cesspool of sick, brain-washed, hate-mongers who are so far away from the love of God that they have to shout about their "saved" status to anyone with "ears to hear" to convince themselves of their own "goodness". I'm disgusted by those of you who would speak for God and I hope that somewhere deep inside you recognize the shame of that act. Judge not lest ye be judged and be aware of your own sin, because I'm sure it's right up there on God's check list. Hatred is the worst of all evils. It leads to nothing good. And it's all over some of the answers to this question.

Don't be so sure if your God calls you to persecute, condemn, and dehumanize. As another has already mentioned, there have been others in the past who heeded the call they felt was being given them by God and it led to one of the most terrible events in our recent human history. Hitler was a fan of the Bible and doubtless used it justify his positions. So does the KKK. But then, I'm sure some of you already knew that...

Indeed.
But it's not something a god-botherer wants to contemplate with an open mind because if the gay guy didn't CHOOSE to be gay there is only one other explanation - ***'GOD' made him that way and that can't be true cos 'god' doesn't make mistakes just like physically or mentally deformed children aren't born.

[edit]
A coupla 'xians' up there mentioned that if gays didn't choose to be gay they wouldn't feel bad or guilty.
I’m amazed these people have the ability to operate a computer.
Picture this - you grow up doing the right thing and thinking you're a good boy but everyone in society tells you that because you have a birth mark on your face (or that you’re left-handed) you are evil and you should be ashamed of yourself - how long before your self-esteem shrivelled.

Nasty people are about the only things I dislike intensely.

I am also sure I can’t get through to these people because of the ***reason above.

you're suited we are able to choose not having intercourse in any respect or interior the worst case have hetero intercourse just to sustain a picture yet this is the only determination right here. The instincts, emotions, guts won't exchange. There are actually not any solid researches in this all of them ended up inconclusive on the two approaches: those asserting this is an determination and the others asserting this is innate. There are some genetic researches although that shows maximum gays have an particular combination of genes. what isn't proved yet is why some "heteros" even have it yet won't manage to settle for gay intercourse as an determination.

Anyone who seriously holds onto the belief that homosexuality is a choice is as evil as the worst Nazi, who believed that Jews were somehow different and inferior and that this justified exterminating them.

This blunt comparison is meant to shock but is in a literal sense accurate - homophobia is one of the worlds greatest evils, and I would argue that any religion that holds homophobic views is entirely morally bankrupt and has no truth in it.

And of course homosexuals were a group that the Nazis persecuted along with Jews. So churches truly are in their company when they pursue these beliefs.

That's the demonic influence.
You see the Devil is the prosecution and Christ is the defense.
With so many accusing them they get lower self esteem.
This leads to depression and then suicide.
See Lucifer works primarily through accusation.
So who works for Lucifer, who are his children.
The accusers of course.
So who are the accusers.

They are the ones who claim to serve Jesus but do so by hate. This is called Judgment.

Luke 6:37
Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

So these people then say OK! God will judge, still attempting to intimidate.

John 12:47
And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

OK maybe not Jesus then perhaps the Father?

John 5:22
For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

Well who the heck is judging them?

Oh yea! The Hypocrites!

I'd like to see the source of your statistic, but regardless, it's pretty obvious that no sane person would choose homosexuality in light of the discrimination these people face.

The reason these goddies all say it's a choice is because they actually think people can just choose which gender they want to be attracted to.

I defy any so called "heterosexual theist" to will themselves to become sexually aroused by a member of the same sex. If you can't do this, you're a liar, and if you can, you're a hypocrite.

Homosexuality is a choice, and there are several places in the Bible that states this rather specifically, and states that it is indeed a sin.

Why is there a higher percentage of homosexual suicides than there is heterosexual suicides? I've never heard of that before, but I'd assume because that they feel that they have done something wrong and don't deserve to live. That's why most people commit suicide anyways, or because they feel that death would be more pleasant than life.

There will always be gays, sin or not, and if we could all accept each other as we are, and stop judging someone for who they are, who they chose to be, or the choices they make (for we all make mistakes), then we'd all be alot better off. Everyone is guilty, and I mean everyone!

Homosexuality being a choice makes your statistics a bit skewed, for the fact they chose a homosexual lifestyle doesn't mean they're going to kill themselves for it! Who knows why the rates are so much higher among homosexuals? I don't, but I wouldn't put it solely on their lifestyle choice!

What I find sad is that religious people ignore the testimony of people who say they did not choose to be gay, yet are willing to accept testimonies from people who lived thousands of years ago and claim to have hung out with God. Why?

maybe because they are beat up, persecuted, punished, cast out of their families, bashed, called abominations, and treated like sh*t by so many people.
How would you feel if you were reviled and ridiculed by everyone based solely on who you were attracted to and/or loved?
Some people are not strong enough to constantly stand against a tide of hate without buckling. Would you be able to withstand it?
