Many of us have seen the episode of South Park that mentions this and I'm interested to know if mormons actually believe this. I have brown skin and let me tell ya, it's the way to go if you have a choice.
Obviously i don't take what I see on a cartoon at face value, and anyone can answer but I'm especially interested in the answers of current or former mormons.

Well according to Manaia's, black skin not brown is a punishment from god? That's sounds awfully racist. can anybody cite a passage from the Book of mormon?

more or less, that is correct.
It is more complex than that, but in a nutshell, that is pretty much the run down of the story. Embellished a bit with the second stone in the hat thing sounding like the first, but a little different, but the bulk was pretty much right on.
Interesting note - Matt Stone and Trey Parker are Mormons.

Black skin is/was the mark of Cain. Cain and his seed were to have the Priesthood withheld from them for Cains transgession.
I would council you to do a bit more research on your own instead of this biased website that will provide you with nothing but misdirection and a head full of trash.
Native Americans, Pacific Islanders etc... are all of the house of Israel. The Book of Mormon gives record of how and where they came from.. Hagoth also known as Hawiki who separated from the Nephite group and went exploring on the ocean with his tribe(s)
These people populated the Pacific Islands and Polynesia.
But I don't expect you to comprehend that.
Point being they are darker skinned but not black and had the Priesthood of God among them.

God did not give the Lamanites dark skin as a punishment. It was to mark them so that they could be differentiated from the Nephites, ostensibly so they would not intermarry.
There are two or three times, at least, in the Book of Mormon, where the Lamanites are the righteous people and the Nephites are not, but only ONE time when God actually changed the skin color of some Lamanites who became righteous people.

I hope not, because my boss is a Mormon bishop and my husband is Native American and they get along fine. I do think most mormons think they are better than everyone else. I've been at my job for over 20 yrs with the same boss and believe me I see these people on a daily basis. My best friend is a mormon (we met at work), she moved out of state but she gives me the low down, they keep everything bad swept under the rug. Just like all humans, they have dirty laundry but act like they are perfect.

I watched a documentary on Mormons and what it said was a long time ago a great angel waged war on God.
There were three groups of people, one group fought on the side of the fallen angel and they became demons and the second group of people fought on behalf of God and they came here to earth as white people.
The third group didn't get involved at all.
They didn't chose the side of the fallen angel and they didn't help God fight.
So for their punishment they were sent to earth with dark black skin.
Not brown skin as South Park described but black.
Strange isn't it?

You should be thankful for your brown skin and not pay any attention to anyone else who says anything other than what the Bible teaches! I think brown skin is beautiful and all the other colors are lovely too! God does also since he created all these colors. Remember what Moses' sister was stricken with in the Bible? It was leprosy because she was prejudiced against a Cushite woman who was Moses' wife. A Cushite in ancient times came from Africa. This just goes to show that God does not favor one race over another. It is the heart He searches!

NOOOOooOOOooo. South Park is pretty cool but that Mormon episode about the church was sort of messed up, so you better visit http://www.mormon.org and http://www.lds.org for more accurate information :)
Ah, and I have brown skin too and I feel blessed because of my skin color, I love it and I've gotten many compliments for it. Skin doesn't matter if we are talking about God and religion ^_^

I have never heard of the name Cree, but I have known several Dakota's and both boys and girls. And none have Native American, that I know of. But, you cannot always tell by their appearance.
