Have the passion to make a difference. You can't really save the world from pollution or total destruction but you can make a difference. An environmentalist or a conservationist is not only one in heart but you must also be equipped with the scientific facts, information and processes. Go to college, select a course where you are most interested in or which you think you can excel in or can do. It doesnt matter whether you are an artist, a musician, a scientist, an engineer. With whatever degree you have, you can always be an environmentalist or conservationist.

However, if you want to be one with the technical stuff, then you can enroll in anything related to science (biology, sociology, environmental science, physics, even math, computers, social science, chemistry, etc.) Remember that solving environmental problems should be done in a holistic approach.

Third parties serve a purpose. It keeps the politicians on better behavior. Perhaps if the Clinton administration had done more for the environment, the administration's vice president Al Gore would have gone on to win the next election. Perhaps Obama will also keep this in mind when he makes decisions affecting the environment. He may also think about his own re-election in 2012 and keep the 2000 election in mind when making executive decisions. On the flip side, of course, Gore didn't win and that certainly wasn't good for the environment. Is it best to vote for a third party candidate? That depends on the specific election, you would need to look at the candidates in detail to decide.

Lots of fields of study, so you may need to try different things there until you find your niche. But in the meantime I'd volunteer for a park or nature center in your community. You learn, get good experience, and make contacts.

Read. Lots of good books and magazines out there that will enlighten. Try any of the books of E.O. Wilson. I think you'll enjoy his perspective and respect his approach.

Visit. Explore the wilderness and open space areas within a day or two of your area. Pick up a few field guides and start getting to know the critters who live in those areas. How those creatures live tells you a lot.

Good luck!

i dont know of any that are... worth a dang.. they all sold out long ago.. the enviromental movement isnt interested in saving anything anymore... if they had any interest what so ever they would kill coal-fire power plants.. but they are in the back pocket of the DNC and only come out to call the other side names and they collect a check and go home in the SUVS and home that burn more power in 3 months that the avg. american home burns in 2 year.. cough cough ALgore Cough cough..

if you want to do something... pick up the gargage around your home.. and i guess. if your dumb enough to believe i global warming,.. you could plant a tree.... use the yellow pages to find what you need instead of driving all over town to find 1 thing.. combine trips...

The best way to get educated. There are far too many people ranting about it with no scientific basis. Get a degree in chemistry or environmental engineering.
