While deployed they do, and when there are in garrison, most of them will get the day off, unless they are in the field or have some kind of staff duty.

my husband works in a MOS where his is a "24/7 shop" as they call it. in the 6 years weve been together he has worked all but about 3-4 holidays. he works weekends every other month and this is his month so he has worked the last 4 days even though most others had it off....he will get his days comped to him (he gets 2 3day weekends during the week to make up for the 4 day he missed) he will also work thanksgiving, but since hes not on weekends in december he will have christmas off. most 24/7 mos's come up with some sort of plan to make sure the same people dont work every holiday...although if your deployed your out of luck

yes, as do many, many other occupations.

Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations.

In thoery, since the military is not unionized, labor day is not really a day for them.

I know I am right now, and I do usually work holidays so my soldiers don't have to. Military gave us a 4 day weekend, I'm working 3 of those at 14 hour shifts each day. I am in korea, and yeah, I could find better things to do with my time, but its a job, somebodys gotta do it. Oh, and I work in the hospital, some sections never close (mines one of em)

Yes we do. We are always on the go (24/7). In the garrison, soldiers may avail the holiday but more often, we opt to stay inside the camp because we have been used to it especially that holidays like labor day in the Philippines is declared "Red Alert" meaning soldiers should stay inside camp to prepare for possible enemy actions.

Sure they do, holidays mean nothing when compared to the military mission. The only way you are off is, if it happens to be on your scheduled day off. I was in the Army, so I know this from experience.

Hubby is stationed here in the states, he got off Friday morning and then has to "check in" (show face) on Tuesday afternoon. Back to the usual grind Wednesday morning.
