The Jewish religious leaders in Jesus' time were misleading the people. Those guys had a lot of power and they liked it that way. Jesus taught the people a lot of things, and most of it was upsetting the religious leaders' balance of power which is why they wanted him killed. The Romans in power found no fault with Jesus. He taught his followers how to pray because they asked.

This is an excellent question.

The Christian Prayer is (like most of Christianity) a very watered down version of Jewish prayer, which involves (more than I know) hypnotically reciting text and rocking back and forth to release kundalini (my interpretation) energy.

This type of praying makes one feel that they are in contact with the Divine.

The Christian prayer seems to be pretty much asking God for things; understanding, patience, money, etc..

He taught us to pray because there were many people who were praying at His time (and now) who prayed only to be heard and seen as Holy. They werent having any communication with God, they were simply putting on a show for others around. So Jesus taught us to pray so that we know to give thanks, ask for the desires of our heart, ask for forgieness (we sin daily) and always keep our focus where it needs to be...on God.

You learn by example...people teach and recite prayers which completely goes against what the bible says to do..its supposed to truley come from the heart and always be through jesus christ name and ended in an amen or it isnt heard.
people really need to be taught, cause they are praying for things like please dont let the sale be over so i can get those shoes tomorrow..that is not important.

How would we teach ourselves something we never heard of before? To pray to God we must understand/know the right method, right?

If you know how to do something correctly you need no teacher. Jesus taught because people were not doing it right. That is why we have to have a teacher.

We probably could have, but still, it's nice to have a guide when trying to do something. Like if you were doing a math problem you'd never seen before, would you rather be shown a outline of how to do it, or be left to your own devices to wonder if you are doing it correctly
