Good question...
the bible approaches that subject more than once ...in one reference it says" a day to God ...is as a thousand years ...and a thousand years is as a day." ...i think that is in the book of job ...but not sure.
in the book of daniel... an angel speaks to daniel and refers to seventy weeks ...which translates to seventy years.
bible scholars withh PHD's argue the point ... to this day.
as i said ...that is a good question ...the most important question that anyone can answer though is ...do you know Jesus as your personal lord and savior.
i heard a pastor once that said he was a heavy drug user before he became a christian ...one time he OD'd ...and woke up in hell.
he was in a completely confined very dark ...very hot space ...trapped and miserable beyond description.
he also said he had the sensation that there was no past ...and no future ...only now...forever....time didnt exist anymore....at all.
well ...they revived him ...he dodged that bullet.
...but that very scarey very real experience made him start thinking...which led him to go to church one sunday ...even though he was high as a kite and didnt belive in God.
...long story short ...he's a preacher often seen on TBN christian tv network ...larry huch is his name ...he has a church called New Beginnings in dallas texas.
he preaches that hell is very real...from first hand experience.
...in the bible it says that Jesus died a horrible death on a cross to take our punishment ...so that we dont have to go to hell.
the bible says further that we are all sinners ...if a person lies ...he is a sinner ..if a person lusts ...she is a sinner ..if a person breaks any one of Gods rules ...they are a sinner.
the bible states that absolutely no sinners will be allowed into heaven ...and will go instead to hell ...for eternity.
but ...the bible also says that ...if a person is honest enough to admit that they are a sinner ...and asks God to forgive them ...and asks Jesus to come into their life to protect them.
...then he will gladly do it...
honest curiosity is the key ...larry huch was curious ...he walked into that church and challenged God to prove that he existed ...and he got an answer...
God does the same for everyone ...not just larry huch ...God did it for me ...and i was never a drug addict ...
ask God yourself ...and i guarantee he will answer you ...if he exists ...he can do it ...
if you ask God's forgiveness and honestly ask His help to live up to the Lords prayer ...i guarantee ...you will be amazed ...you will change in ways you never would have imagined ...for the rest of your life. ...and you will see heaven when the time comes....for eternityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...
God bless you.

then you'd have to try and find out why the earth suddenly sped up. and if you say God did it, you might as well believe that the earth isn't that old in the first place.
and if you say it took the earth so long to go around the sun, you must conclude that the earth was further than alpha-centari and would likely be too far for any gravitational pull to create an orbit. now if you say God moved it, then you might as well believe it was always where it was.
and if you believe that the earth turned so slowly as to make a revolution once every 1 million years+ then you also must believe that the earth has either a constantly self-defining momentum or an increase in momentum, whereas in one day we will fry because the earth will spin to fast around its axis. now that's a stretch on the scientific part if you ask me
and actually, the Bible does say it was a 24 hour day in its original language, with the evening and morning.

Im a creationist and I think its very possible the earth is indeed billions of years old. I agree with you on the concept of time as well. Ive never gotten an answer, but have always wondered why because the earth is billions of years old means macro evolution had to have occured. Why couldnt that work with the creation story and still keep the earth's age the same. Good question

And you could say that when he said "pink" he really meant "blue", and when he said grass was created before critters he really meant it the other way around (so it agrees with our accepted view of evolution)...you can twist anything around to make it mean anything you want in the bible. It's been done for centuries so some people must swallow it.
But if he meant a period of time longer than a day, why didn't he just SAY SO? The Hebrew word used in the Genesis creation story for "day" is the same used elsewhere to denote a plain old "day" of 24 hours--don't you think it would have behooved him to make things nice and plain, so we didn't have this huge argument thousands of years later?

Earth. Not God.Read carfeully.Understand carefully. The first "day" starts when God created between night and day but not the light and darkness. The " first day" and the "first night" where time on earth started. Time is present but not numbers in exact. In regards of others fatcs that were raced, is a facts of time where science and God perceftly timed by man.

It is common knowledge, among Christians, and probably because it's found in the bible, that a day to God is as a thousand years. A thousand years, is as a day.
Time table in mortal understanding, considering it lives on the only planet with time, is not the same time table as God's.

Oh gee.. you're using rational logic to address a matter that is based solely upon faith. Aint' gonna work.
The Bible was allegedly written by Men who were getting the Word direct from God. Men who were, by today's standards, extraordinarily ignorant. If God really did pass along His message to these men, even if they were the most intelligent of their day, he had to dumb it down a bit.
But really it's all just the currently-accepted mythology. At one time people believed the god Apollo was born full-grown from the forehead of Zeus.

In God's realm there is no time. The Bible explicitly explains this as it says, " a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day.
I think man made this one up. Sorry if you all don't agree!

After each of the first six days of creation, God said these words:
Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gen 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gen 1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gen 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gen 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gen 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
So He said that A DAY IS ONE MORNING AND ONE EVENING LONG.
Thats a far cry from a million years, eh?
