Here is the thing. I'm starting to really hate my braces. I don't really look my age (22) and these braces make me look like im a High Schooler. I'm thinking of abandoning the treatment. I still have some gaps here and there but they aren't really noticeable. I wouldn't be asking this question if it wasn't bothering me severely... perhaps someone with a little insight or someone that was in a similar situation can help me with this? thanks.

From a mother of a 24 yr old sone who had braces, abandoning them is definetly NOT an option. I can relate to how you must feel because I went through it all during the time my son had them. I CAN tell you however he is so happy he did not give up before the right time. He's had them off for about 2 years now and his smile is still beautiful! If he, or if you, quit now, you will wish later you hadn't. I know it isn't easy now, but later you will be so happy. Hang in there. Your still young, I've seen people in their 30's even 40's with braces. You don't want to have to go back in time. Stick it out now. You'll be so happy you did.

Theyre gonna hurt for a while, but eventually you get really used to it and you forget they're even there. I noticed that some of our patients were actually sad when they got their braces removed because they got so used to it. You can give up now, but its really bad for your teeth, I think you should just hang in there a little longer and before you know it it'll be over.

then when you're 40 and your teeth are all wonky you can say "but the folks on Answers said to go ahead and abandon the treatment, its' all their fault!"

Geez... drop the immediate gratification bit and take a look at living for another 50 years and what that means. Or don't, I really dont' care. It ain't my teeth that are going to be all crooked and whomper-jawed.

My brother-in-law had to have extensive orthodontic work when he was a teenager. After that, he was supposed to wear a retainer, which he never did. What happened was that his teeth started drifting back to their original positions and now he's finding that he has to wear braces again. He's in his mid-50s.

Stick with your braces. believe me, you will not regret it because you'll look better at the end of it. your wasting your money if you have them taken off. sure, you'll suffer but it's only temporary. you'll suffer for two years but look more attractive for the next twenty, sounds good enough? when i had braces i hated it too. it hindered my speaking, was uncomfortable and just troublesome. but i didn't regret it. i was sooo happy and relieved when they were removed, i kept feeling my teeth with my toungue. now i just need whiter teeth=D

I say stick with them. If you take them off now, it'll be a waste of your money, AND, your teeth will gradually revert to the way it was before.
