Men= realize that sometimes we just want to talk, we do not need you to fix it, but we do want ideas on how to handle things.
Women= Men are fixers, they do not handle the emotional stuff that your girlfriends are there for.

Well, I think the best thing is not to expect them to understand you more than the average person would. And, not to try and push your point too much. Just get a feel for what they like and don't like and let them have there space. Talk, but not to the point of causing derision or strife.

Are you asking how to get your partner to understand you? If so then, SHOW THEM respect, love, compassion and understanding.

aside from communication it also takes compromises, (when both parties want to do something different) and finally being able to 'stick together' during bad times and not take the easy way and just 'bail out'.
