I really like the look of a painted ceiling. If your husband is reluctant to use the wall color, what about just a shade or two lighter? Painted ceilings really help to show off any architectural detail -- especially if you have crown molding.
White will "lift" the ceiling while a darker color will ground it. If the room ever feels too tall, definitely try painting the ceiling.

In design, it used to be in style to have the ceiling white and the walls a color.
In the past few years, with more paint colors to choose from and more ways to paint (faux), design has gone the way of painted ceilings.
That being said, keep in mind that light reflects off of paint. It reflects more off of the walls than the ceiling (in fact, the ceiling gets 20% less light than the walls. What does that mean for you? Simple. If you use the same paint on the ceiling that you use on the walls, the ceiling will look darker than the walls and you'll get the impression the ceiling is coming down on your head. The solution?
When painting a ceiling, paint it 2 shades lighter of the same family than the walls. Simply take your paint sample chip that has 4, 5,6, or 7 different colors on it and choose the color 2 shades lighter. This will solve the problem or your ceiling appearing darker than your walls.
Painting your ceiling in this way will make your room appear even larger. Your ceilings will appear higher.
That being said, if you really don't want to paint the ceiling, hang on a bit... white ceilings are due to make a come-back in 2008.
Enjoy your room!

I say be creative. When I bought my apartments, I listened to others and used flat white for the ceilings and emi gloss antique white for the walls. What a pain in the ****. The next apartment I bought semigloss and painted ceiling and walls white. The first woman that walked in rented it. . .and it was very nice. It was a darker apartment so the shine added to the light in the apartment. I have now gone on to try to have different rooms in the apartment different shades of white and off white so that everything isn't the same. Some rooms are cool and some are warm but still whitish. I have slowly painted ceilings and walls all the same semigloss and now everyone that has seen them is doing the same thing. I had those awful popcorn ceilings and I can even paint those. You can get an extender for the roller so painting the ceiling is easy and quick. Just cover everything. I get one person to do the edges and I roll the heck out of everything from the floor. And since I do them in the same color, you can touch up the semigloss by just brushing over it and it blends in. Redecorate, move pictures. . .no problem. Just patch and touch up. After you get a few coats on I just very lightly run over most of it and it looks like I just painted it. And I use WalMart paint at $12 gallon and it is excellent. Consumer Reports said so years ago and I've been using it ever since. I use the premixed colors so they are the same everytime. . .and that really works for me. No one is painting traditionally anymore. Take a look at the decorator mags at the grocery store while you're in line and check out Home Depot or the like and look at their brochures. You should make your home you. . .and with high ceilings you have so many options. . .I painted my bedroom a flat sorta chocolate brown and the ceiling white but I slowly mixed in the wall paint to had the same tone to the white. Turned out very nicely but can't touch it up. . .

known characteristics of ceiling paint: Ceiling paint is white or rather some colours of white paint that has stable insurance features and has a flat end and dries promptly. you're no longer limited to only use ceiling paint to paint your ceiling. I somewhat have used rather some colours of paint to paint many ceilings and characteristic in no way are available the time of any issues in doing so. flow forward and paint your ceiling with besides the fact that paint you want. I promise, the paint police isn't knocking at your door.

Usually the ceiling is painted two or three shades lighter than the wall color. Its fine to do if you can get it down. Especially if you have the trim work up to divide the two colors

Just take into consideration, wether you paint them or not..if the ceilings are that gawd awful acoustic/popcorn...that if you start rolling paint on it it will peel off in sheets as you roll..If this is the case, this means you will have to spray the ceilings with paint and not roll them..If the texture on the ceilings is something other than popcorn..your ok

Painting the ceilings is a pain in the neck, I've done it and won't ever do it again. My ceilings will forever stay white...even if I ever have to paint them, they'll be repainted white so if I miss any spots, it won't show.
