So, I found what I am sure is a ROUNDWORM in my 3 month old puppys poop... I took her to the vet exactly 7 days ago, and she got wormed then, but I am going to get her some over the counter worm meds tomorrow... the thing that sucks about this, is I have a 4 year old little girl, that is always all over the puppy, playing with her, and letting her lick her face, ect. and I have a wife that is preggo with twins, and I have been reading on the net for like the last 4 hours that everyone in the house will catch this parasite, and lose their site, and my wife will lose the kids.. ect ect ect.
HELP!

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.. You worm the dog and worms are gone.. The whole family isn't going to die.. It's unlikely that your kid is even going to get round worm.. Unless she is eating dog crap she is safe.. Don't you wash her hands or anything?? You are over reacting.. I have never in my life had worms.. I don't even know anyone who has had worms..
If this were honestly true, everyone in the whole world would have worms.. Look at all the dirty people out there with dogs that don't wash their hands or practice proper hygiene?? They would be full of worms..

Do not buy over the counter wormer and re-worm the puppy. If she received worming medication from the Vet just a week ago, contact your Vet. More than likely she was heavily infested and the worm you just saw was one of the later ones to die and pass out of the puppy in it's stool. Your Vet may want to do another worming in a short period of time anyway, so you need to consult with the Vet or at least the Vets office.
While it is possible for humans to pick up hook worms from areas an infested dog has had bowel movements, we cannot get every worm that a dog gets. I don't know what you have been reading nor where, but it sounds totally inaccurate and full of misinformation possibly meant to panic the public.
Your family is going to be fine. I wouldn't let the 4 year old play where the puppy goes to relieve itself and have bowel movements, but that is just common sense. Have your little one wash her hands frequently, but she should do that anyway.
Wash the floor if the pup has any accidents.
Check with your Vet and I am sure you will be reassured that all is well.

How irresponsible of you to buy a puppy on impulse. Puppies deserve loving, caring homes and clearly you are incapable of providing this. Either take the puppy back to the back yard breeder who sold it to you or surrender it to a no kill shelter. You didn't get this pup from an ethical breeder or they would have figured out in less than 3 minutes that you would not be a suitable owner. Forget about getting money for the puppy. The back yard breeder you bought it from won't give you a refund but they might be willing to take the puppy back. It was your mistake to buy it and in life we have to pay for our own mistakes. If you hadn't taken this pup the next person who came along may have provided it with a loving forever home. You've done this little puppy no favours. If the puppy has been wormed your child will not get worms from it but that is neither here nor there since the pup isn't loved and you don't want it. Don't wait until the little puppy becomes attached to you and don't ever be tempted to get another dog. Surrender it NOW.

Take your child to the doctor. Roundworms are very pesky and can take a lot more than just one treatment at the vet's and over the counter medication. I would suggest having your child's stool tested for parasites just to be on the safe side. If she does have them, then all she will have to get done is the treatment, and a stool retest after the treatment period. The only way the you can get worms from your doughter is through contact with her stool and not washing your hands. DO NOT let the dog lick your faces!!!! Even after the treatment, and when you know that she is free of worms. That is the easiest way to transmit disease from dog to human!!! Also, call your veterinarian and consider going back there to do the following treatment. The store products are never as good as the vet medicines. And lastly, re-test the puppies stool after treatment to make sure the is no sign of the worms. Also, ask your vet about regular strategic deworming. It only takes a second to do at home, and keeps the whole family free of parasites.

Don't go and buy an over the counter med. These are ineffective at best, at worst they can harm your pet.
Wormers take time to work, you a likely still seeing the effects of the wormer your vet gave. Your puppy will expel the worms, this is normal.
Give it another week, then have your vet run a fecal test to see if another dose is needed.
Washing your hands after playing with the puppy, and before you eat will prevent you from getting worms.

I don't know if you have ever gone to the mission field? In third world nations it is common to see kids or adults with long white round worms under the skin or even in the eyes. In this nation, it is extremely rare. We have better sanitation and stronger immune systems because of better nutrition. Canine parasites show up as skin lesions in humans. They are easy to see. But like DP said, we don't see this here. We don't have dozens upon dozens of humans with round worm lesions even though almost all dogs have worms at one time or another. Your family will be ok. If you see a lesion then go to the doctor. But don't expect it. It just doesn't happen here very often at all unless you just don't ever wash your hands or you have a very compromised immune system.
All dogs have worms at one time or another, and all dogs should be on a regular worming cycle. OTC wormers are ok for roundworms. The best products use the active ingredient pyrantel or fenbendazole. Either one will kill roundworms. Just check the labels.

And yes you can worm your dog again at one week later. There is no problem with that.

Worms are pretty common, especially in Children. The symptom of Pin Worm or thread worm for example is an itchy bum.. sorry no easier way to say that...
There is over the counter medications available at the chemist. Conbantrin is a popular one and you can get over the counter.
It is also cheap to buy over the counter Pyrantel which works well but it is not recommended for pregnant women.
Wormwood from a health store can be used by both the family and the dog but once again not on the pregnant lady.
I would advise you to take her to a doctor who can recommend and prescribe a treatment for her that won't harm junior.
The doctor can also prescribe meds for the rest of the family but this works out more expensive than over the counter.
Its dosed by weight and the instructions are on the boxes/bottles.
I found this following bit of advice for pregnant women specifically
A natural approach to treating them is:
Chewing a handful of raw rice for breakfast (eating nothing else). Eat other meals during the day as normal.
Between meals, eat one clove garlic and one small handful of pumpkin seeds (crush garlic or mix it with other food or miso to help you swallow).
About 2 hours or more after the last meal of the day, drink 1 cup of nettle tea.
Continue this for 10 days, stopping for 7 days, then resuming for a final 10 days to remove parasites that have hatched from eggs after the initial treatment regime.

You give a wormer and the worms come out if there are any, puppy should be clear now, wait for the vet to make that decision.

It is VERY ulikely that you will get worms from your dog. You should worm the dog again but none of the over the counter stuff. Get more wormer from your vet. You should not let the dog lick your child's face. Wash your hands and the child's hands often. Everything should be okay.
