Belgium's two largest regions are Dutch-speaking Flanders in the north, with 58% of the population, and the French-speaking southern region of Wallonia, inhabited by 32%. The Brussels-Capital Region is an officially bilingual enclave within the Flemish and near the Walloon Region, and has 10% of the population. A small German-speaking Community exists in eastern Wallonia.

Belgian motto
Eendracht maakt macht (Dutch)
L'union fait la force" (French)
Einigkeit macht stark (German)
"Strength through Unity"

OMG! I'm so worry to see that some of you (Liona & Meme) think that everyone in Belgium speak french, of course not that's why there is lots of problem with the north and the south. So... They Speak dutch (= Flemish) and the south speak French. In brussel, lots speak french but we say that's a bilingual city. Hope that's helped you.

the main(state) language in belgium is french. a large portion of the population speaks dutch, or flemmish (the name of hte dialect) at home. a small area that presses to germany speaks german.

most of the dutch belgians feel that the french speaking belgians are trying to force their language on them. this creates a lot of tension in belgium. which ofcourse became very in the news again with the recent elections.

flemmish is not the exact same as dutch. but it is not a seperate language, dutch people can usually understand a flemmish speaker, although they might think the wordchoice and grammer is 'odd'
