That is a neat idea. Here's some thoughts that you may want to consider. Having a fruit tree is a good symbol that in our life we are to produce good fruit. Also, it's away to symbolize that we cannot produce fruit outside of Christ (the true vine). Fig trees are mentioned in scripture many times and are an important thing to show the fruit of Christians. Almond tree is another one. Oak trees are also shown in scripture a few times as something that is strong in Christ or strong in God. Think about these things if they help you out any.

Congratulations! I am not Christian, but I understand that you must be proud of your new baby and his Baptism. So may I suggest an apple tree? They bear beautiful flowers that bloom before the fruit comes in. That would be symbolic of a new baby coming into your life, blossoming into life (the apple). Eating from that tree would allow him to remember why it is there, as well as you and your husband. The natural planting of the apple tree will indicate its purity, as a Baptism "purifies" the baby. Good luck, and congratulations once more!

definitely a dogwood tree. I have been taught the cross was made from a dogwood tree, and ever since it has grown too small to make a cross. The flower petals form a cross with what looks like a crown of thorns in the center, and the tips of the flower petals have a red streak like a bit of blood.

Oak tree they are healthy trees so it will live a long time. They also make great shade trees in the summer. They feed animals and I think they are a pretty looking tree. So I say go with an Oak tree. =)

I would choose a flowering dogwood. It will look beautiful every spring, green every summer and has red berries in the fall. I grew up with a dogwood big enough and sturdy enough we could climb it and sit in it's branches. They get about 20 feet tall with a very wide spread when mature--after many, many years.

Depends on your environment, doesn't it? Here in hot, dry Southern California, an oak would make a lot of sense.

Edit: What I'm trying to say, but failed to, is that you should plant a tree that's native to your area. That way it'll require a minimum of care.

For by grace are you through faith, and that not of yourselves it is a gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast. What book are you reading that tells you baptizing a baby will save them? There is only one proven book, the bible. Not the curan, book of moron, extra books the catholics added, or any other writings that anyone declares was a revelation from God. You have more faith than me, assuming water will do magic. Grab a bible and figure it out on your own if you want. Don't trust some man or preacher.
