I agree, I just started reading this section for the first time a few days ago (I'm usually in the music section, etc) - this is worse than the politics section, lol. You can just read some comments and see why the world is in the sorry state it's in w/ everyone hating each other over opinions and views. Some people will just never get it, imo.... It's depressing really - Atheists, Christians, Agnostic, other? It doesn't matter. I think alot of people on here have severe personal problems and they come on here to vent against people who they a. don't know b. may never know and c. can't see.....it's very easy to lash out at someone who doesn't see things like you see them. It takes a VERY strong willed person to look you in the eye and say, "I don't agree with anything you say, I think you're completely wrong -- but I respect everything you said even if on a very basic level b/c we are both flesh and blood," and walk away. It's not about "sugar coating" or "everyone getting along." This section is the saddest one on Y! A b/c it demonstrates the most negative traits of humanity, imo. Shame, really.

I wish that were the case.
I often come on here with the best intentions. I am just going to answer questions from my contacts, and answer the questions by those open-minded believers who are curious about others...
And then I see it. A question that starts out "Atheists, why do you always.." I make the mistake of reading it, and then answering it. I then come back to the main R&S page to find very few questions honestly seeking answers, and instead find hate spewed from all directions. So I give it right back. And the cycle continues. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I never knew I was such a sad, lost, arrogant, ignorant, immoral loser until I came to R&S.

I agree, but sometimes when you have an opinion you will have people that will disagree with you and express theirs. But for the most part I have noticed a lack of respect and intolerance for others opinions. There are some that do not care about others beliefs and come to yahoo answers just to show their ignorance and get a rise out of someone and their day is done.

Here's a nice scripture for you:
"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show out his fine conduct his works with a mildness that belongs to wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and contentiousness in your hearts, do not be bragging and lying against the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is the earthly, animal, demonic. For where jealousy and contentiousness are, there disorder and every vile thing are. But the wisdom from above is first of all chaste, then peaceable, reasonable, ready to obey, full of mercy and good fruits, not making partial distinctions, not hypocritical. Moreover, the fruit of righteousness has its seed sown under peaceful conditions for those who are making peace." (James 3:13-18)
The Bible also helps us to understand that God's adversary, Satan the Devil, is misleading the entire inhabited earth and people are influenced by him. (Revelation 12:9-12)

In the old days, there were three topics considered to be off-limits in polite society---religion, politics and sex.
I think that the most important thing to remember about religion is very simple---about 80-90% of the humans on this planet believe pretty much what they were raised to believe. So, what I think about God has less to do with divine realty than it has to do with by whom, where, and how I was raised.
great quote from "Alice in Wonderland"---"whatever I tell you three times is true..." we Christians have been so into repetitions and creeds that we accept them as fact. I am as guilty as anyone. I get offended when people question my beliefs. It is like an attack on my family.
I guess the key here is to take the good with the bad, as an old dairy farmer once told me, "chew the hay and spit out the sticks."
And, don't know your beliefs, but the ancient Christians were way, way more persecuted for their beliefs than anyone here on yahoo. Try not to take it personally---and, hate to admit it, but the atheists here are usually more clever than the fundies...and the fundies make those of us who call ourselves moderate Christians look really, really bad...
Peace, my friend---Brian

Sadly, a lot of adults bicker, and there actually are a lot of immature kids here. To each their own...I just wish everyone else would see that. Wish we could all get along.

so when someone says that my religion is wrong and evil. i am just supposed to allow it to stand and not speak out?
for the last 2000 years people ahve been told that Paganisma nd Witchcraft are evil and bad. and now that we live in a time where we can be open about our religion we are going to just sti back and allow people to continue to spread their lies and haterd.
if noone stands up and says "NO you are wrong that is NOT what my religion is about". then anyone that does not know will never learn. and we descend into the dark ages again.
i try to be nice. and respectful. but i will not be silent.

Mainstream scientific principles and descriptions of the natural world are uniform, without borders, do not discriminate, and are a universal conduit with which to understand and discuss the natural word.
If creationists, christian fundies, or other religious fruitcakes choose to rock the boat with divise and bigoted religious dogma, ignorance, scientific illiteracy, and dishonesty, then you should address them specifically..

I agree, but it's like a townhall meeting. No matter how much you dress up, come prepared, organize the meeting, everyone will pay attention to the town drunk yelling from the back.

No offense cupcake, but are you new to R&S?
We will never know who "started it", but I can tell you that most of us get really tired of being the ones who are trying to "end it".
I gave up on it all. I'm just here for the drinks and to hang out with hotties like Southpaw and Rachel.
