He could have made the tides move on their own, so what is the symbolism of having a Moon? Light in a dark place? Even when it is dark, there is still a reflection of the Son?

Chew on it, and let me know what ya'll think.

You're right. God did not have to make the universe as complicated as the creator chose. However, there is not one human that can understand the creator and the logic employed in the wondrous things as we see them. As with our world in general, we have no choice but to accept things the way they are.

To answer your question though, I have a suspicion that perhaps earth could not be home to us without the moon. As you mentioned, the Moon influences the oceans and probably affects our climate more than we realize. It is some kind of moderating influence. Spiritually, perhaps the Moon reminds of us of God's presence, not always seen or felt, but it is a presence that is always there. Finally, I think the moon has a big role in the future of mankind. I hope people use it resourcefully and responsibly.

There would be no tides without the gravitational pull of the moon---tides cannot move on their own naturally. God could make them move if he so chose to, but he created the moon and earth to operate in a natural manner. The moon also signals changes of the month and is a way to track time and seasons for ancient people. Isn't it incredible that the moon is just the right distance from the earth to blot out the sun during an eclipse. You can also tell that the earth is round from a lunar eclipse. And if the moon were closer or further from the earth by 10-15 percent, the resulting tides would be too large or too small and cause havoc or dying/stagnating of the oceans. It's just the right distance....God was right to give us a moon.

Gen 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: [he made] the stars also.

Gen 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

Gen 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that [it was] good.

He also made the moon so the ancients could keep track of time and seasons to sow and to reap. The moon cycles through four phases every 28.5 days.

We are to be like the moon and reflect the light of God into the darkness of the world.

He made the moon to give us light at night, this is what His Word teaches us. Also, did you know that the moon helps with keeping the earth aligned on it's axis? Without the moon orbiting around planet earth, all life would cease to exist.
The moon is also indirectly responsible for our climate changes, it is exactly the right size and distance from the earth to sustain our lives. Earths moon is the largest in relative size to earth, to any other moon orbiting any other planet. Jupiter is the largest planet, having the strongest gravitational pull of any planet in our solar system. Placed exactly in the right spot to help keep space debris from finding it's way to earth. Jupiter pulls in all passing debris, through it's strong gravitational pull and harmlessly throws it towards the Sun or in the opposite direction away from earth.
God made everything for a reason and everything has it's place. God Bless You....Peace.

At the beginning of the Bible it explains why there are 2 luminaries, the sun and the moon.........Genesis 1:14-18......"And God went on to say: “Let luminaries come to be in the expanse of the heavens to make a division between the day and the night; and they must serve as signs and for seasons and for days and years. 15 And they must serve as luminaries in the expanse of the heavens to shine upon the earth.” And it came to be so. 16 And God proceeded to make the two great luminaries, the greater luminary for dominating the day and the lesser luminary for dominating the night, and also the stars. 17 Thus God put them in the expanse of the heavens to shine upon the earth, 18 and to dominate by day and by night and to make a division between the light and the darkness. Then God saw that [it was] good. "

You obviously don't have a clue of anything that the study of the universe (science) shows us how the universe works.

Yeah, ancient man thought the moon had a light of it's own, and the sun moved around the earth.

Why do I think god made the Moon. I do not know 'why,' but I know how. He put full use to what's obviously a tiny brain and drove over to the nearest Home Depot. He said, "I'm making the Moon and I need help." The clerk said, "Darn, we sold the last Moon yesterday to a man named Santa Claus." "What can I do? I promised the Fundies a moon!" said god. "Well, have you tried eBay?" "Great idea," said god. "I just got a new computer invented by an agnostic named Gates."

The moon is the "lesser light," made to rule the night. It says it right in Genesis chapter 1.

Maybe he made it for lovers to sit and gaze at, or for songwriters to write about, or for poets to wax romantic about.
Or, maybe he made it--just the right size and distance from earth--so that it would perfectly cover the sun during an eclipse.
