What is that stuff on the back of my cat?? I'm not sure if it really is dandruff or something worse!! It's like the skin is coming off and it's white flakes. He doesnt itch it very often, but when I washed him today with waterless foam white flakes started to fall! Does ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS??? What should I do?

White dandruff flakes are common on cats, it is dandruff. That means the skin is too dry.

You can get Derm Caps from the vet ($8 for a bottle for one month) or give a caplet of primrose oil or flax seed oil over their dry food twice a week. My vet said even 1/4 tsp of canola oil (about 4 drops) on the food works too.

It could be the dried foam flaking off. Try another cleanser. If there is still flaking, try conditioner on your cat. Just don't put any on her head (could get in eyes, and unless you are using Johnson and Johnson tear free, it could irritate her eyes) Anways, I like to use Aussie Moist, so that's what Cuddles gets, but I dilute a quarter sized amount in a small pitcher and pour it over her rubbing it into her fur down to her skin. She never shows signs of dry skin, or itchiness, or sickness from it.

It's dandruff. He has dark colored fur, that's why you can see it. The vet has a special shampoo for this if it bothers you. Believe it or not, I take the vacuum hose and get some of it off of my cat. She likes it. I realize that not too many cats take to this but it works. Brush him lightly as heavy brushing will make it look worse.
I am assuming that he is in good health and has had a checkup.

it sounds like you mite not have washed the shampoo out of him properly if you dont remove it allit will look like dandruff.

if its not annoying im it wont be a food intolerance

i would put him on a real good quality cat biscuit if you do this it will increase the omega 3 and 6 in his diet which nourish the skin and coat this will help remove the dandruff over time

try eukanuba cat its great my babies have lovely shinny coats from it and no dandruff.

I'm almost positive it's dandruff. Could be from the weather, diet, or artificial light.
