I have a new Westie-Poo, her name is Ellie and she is absolutely darling. Are there any current owners of Westies, Westie-Poo's, or Poodles that can tell me anything about how big she will get or any other specific info I might want? If it helps, you can see a lot more Westie in her than Poodle, I bet I could probably convince anyone not extremely familiar with Westies that she's purebred since she has the straight hair and Westie face. Anyway, no ignorant or derogatory comments please.

She's currently just under 5 lbs, about 10 inches tall from ground to crown, and was born 4-6-07.

Fairly Erica, that is a horrible answer, and actually very wrong. Actually, hybrids ARE a 50/50 cross of their parents, now that doesn't mean a 1 foot dog and a 3 foot dog equal a 2 foot dog, but generally speaking the genes are infact shared, and of course I know that no one could tell me anything specific.

Generally, Westies range from about 16 pounds to 25 pounds. What about her ears, does she have ears that stand up straight?

Poodles come in a variety of sizes, so unless you know what her parent's size is, it might be hard to predict how her transformation from puppy to adult will turn-out.

The Poodle part might help temper the stubborn nature of the Terrier breeds, or the desire to chase prey/vermin. Westies are very sweet and loving, but not often "Lap dogs" since they tend to be independent. Poodles are usually quite smart, and Westies are determined...so it could be a nice mix.

Westies get to somewhere between 15 to 25 lbs, not very tall. The poodle in it could make it a be taller than a westie.

Westie-Poo *sigh*

I'm guessing a Mini or Toy poodle was used in this mix? If so she will proebely end up about the same size of a westie.

As others have stated, would've been best to research before getting a dog. Asking here will surely get you negative press on such subject. On top of the fact you purchased a mix from an apparent BYB as a reputable breeder would never let any pup go to someone that knew nothing of its care. The breeder should've given you everything you needed in a kit, least that's what we do. I would suggest you return said pup or do your own research. You'll need an appointment with your vet anyhow and they can answer you the best. Maybe you could go to a Petsmart as well & ask the staff what you will need for said pup.

There's no telling for size. Not only do poodles have a ton of size variance in their make-up, but more importantly, hybrids are NOT an average of the two parents but can be dramatically smaller or larger than both parents. For example, if a geneticist is trying to get size out of anything from corn to a dog, they don't just keep breeding the two largest samples but actually will breed two totally different specimens to create a hybrid. It's really quite fascinating, however it means that no one can tell you exactly what size, or any other characteristic, your hybrid will have.

It's a crapshoot with these mixed breed dogs as far as size goes. Anything with poodle could have standard poodle in their blood. Those suckers are huge. Beautiful, but very big. Hope your pup stays small & sweet.
