for those who do believe that we can lose our salvation, please give me scripture to back this up, and also if we can lose our salvation- then it is not Jesus only, is it? Granted salvation does not give us license to sin, that would be cheap grace, and it is not cheap- it cost our Jesus His life. However if we could lose our salvation every time we might sin, and then not repent before we die- this would mean to me, Jesus died for nothing.

I have to clarify something here I think- there are people who claim to be Christians and the Lord will say- depart I never knew you- who I really want to hear from is people that say we can truly lose our salvation if we sin. 1 John 1 says to believers- "if we say we are without sin,we are liars and the truth is not in us". We have the power not to sin as born again believers, but that does not mean we will be perfect after accepting Christ

Salvation is understood as a three phase process consisting of regeneration, sanctification and glorification.

Upon entering the Salvation Process we are guaranteed the He who began the work in us will be faithful to complete it.

Regeneration...to be Born Again...is a work of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Because Salvation is the work of the God Incarnate Jesus Christ, it would take a God to stop it. You can therefore do nothing to stop it. God, however, promises to complete the work of Salvation and God has not been known to break promises.

Therefore, Salvation is assured to be completed for those who enter into it.

Scriptures:
John 3:16-17...the Promise.
John 1:13, John 3:3 on rebirth
1 Thess. 4:3, 1 Thess. 5:23, Phillipians 2:17 on Sanctification
Phillipians 1:6 and 2:13, 2 Cor 1:10 On the God doing the work of Salvation in you
Galatians 3:15 God's agreements are unstoppable
Galatians 4:7 more assurance that God will fulfill His promise
Ephesians 1:8-9 proof that we do not save ourselves, but God does it.
Colossians 3:4 on Glorification
Titus 3:4-5 Shows that deeds did not result in our salvation; it follows that deeds can not cause the loss of our salvation...gaining or losing salvation is not a result of our deeds...gaining or losing salvation is according to grace by faith, not what we do, but rather, salvation is based on Who we belong to.

Both sides of this discussion have their scripture verses...and in both cases, that evidence is convincing. The real question lay outside the parameters of this particular debate. The question is about the nature of salvation. Is salvation first and foremost a legal declaration of "righteous" or is it a subjective sense of forgiveness? Are we saved because the Triune God of the Bible declares us forgiven or are we saved because we believe this is the case? Were you dead in your sin (a corpse can do nothing except what a living person makes it do) or were your seriously ill and accepted treatment--in which case you could reject the treatment later. Its very complex and the issue cannot be settled in an internet chat room. But why bother...most people who are Christian believe that salvation comes through Christ alone and in light of that, we must be about proclaiming the message. Is that not enough for us to unite with each other and fulfill the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20? A command that is replete with proclaiming the message and teaching each other to live in humble obedience to the Bible. You are correct, but this issue typically serves to divide rather than unite. In whatever truth you have attained, stand in the same, (Philippians 3:16).

Once we are a child of God we stay a child of God. There are those who profess to be Christians but either don't fully understand Christianity or the Holy Spirit truly s not in them. All of us sin and will still sin after receiving Christ. Those, though, that continually sin a certain area knowingly and don't repent are not necessarily saved. Remember, in the Bible God said there will be many that call me "Lord, Lord did we not serve in your name?" (e.g. the pharisees) the Lord will say "depart from me I never knew you". So yes there is always room to come back to God for forgiveness but I would sincerely question a person's salvation if they continually sin in a specific area and don't seek repentance or help in that area. So to answer your question you can't really lose your salvation but if you are indeed saved you will want to turn from your sin and follow Christ.

I do not believe that we can lose our salvation, the bible says that God remembers are sins no more. If a person has truly accepted Christ, then his name is in the book of life. Yet there are those who claim to be Christians who have never really accepted Christ.

You've understood it correctly.
It's *impossible* to lose salvation once it is attained.
The reason being is because salvation is a free gift of God, not by works. Ephesians 2:8-9

In fact believing that you can lose your salvation is dangerous. For those that believe you can lose your salvation I would ask them, what can you possibly do to lose your salvation? If they say "well I can do this... or I can do that" then my response would be that you are not under a gospel of grace but a gospel of works. If there is something that can be done to lose salvation it also means that there is something you *must* do to keep your salvation.
God warns that those that believe they are headed to heaven by their own works must also keep the entire law of God perfectly for salvation.

Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

Are there not those who would "turn away"?

We will not get to repent of all our sin. But, what about those who are Christians who enter into a sin quite willingly and even attempt to justify it? Is there grace for blatant, unrepentant sin? Does it not say that outright sin has no place in the Kingdom?

These questions are worth some answers, I think.

I don't know if Jesus lived or died as depicted but wouldn[t it mean something if those that believe in this form of salvation actually followed what they preached and died for it themselves .that would not be cheap as letting someone else depicted by hearsay of dubious nature pay for something that didn't even exist yet. gain some personal responsibility and put your money where your mouth is .
peace requires integrity

Salvation doesn't work like that. It's not so painfully technical. Just live a good life, serve God, and allow Jesus to be within you. You'll be saved.
