Last time they gave him amoxicillin. Is there anything that I can give him at the house? Or something that I can buy from the store myself?

All it is this time is an eye problem. Every now and then he gets goop in his left eye. When we brought him home he had this same thing and the vet told me it was uri. I was just curious if there was something that I could do for him here. Last visit was $185. At the moment, I just cannot do that. And I dont want my little Puma to suffer..

Just a little side note..

For all the people who say I should give my pet away b/c I cannot care for them. You have no idea what all is going on at the moment. I have 4 dogs and 3 cats all who are on heartworm prevention and frontline plus. Plus the normal bills for checkups and shots. Which they are ALL current on. I just dont have the money at the moment(about a wk or 2) due to my grandmothers illness. She fell ill and needed medicine which she could not pay for. So if that makes me a bad person, I am so sorry. I was just asking for quick help. I didnt want my kitten to suffer for that amount of time.

nope! your vets needs to prescribe meds. If you cat has ANOTHER URI then it is possible there are other underlying factors. And if the vet keeps using the same antibiotic there is a chance down that road that your cat will not respond to that specific one again. You really need to get your cat into the vet before it turns into pneumonia which will cost you ALOT more than an office call and meds.

Its very likely that the same old infection has reared its head again and that amoxiillin wasn't the right drug or needed a longer course. Call the vet and see if he/she can prescribe a renewal without an office visit. If the infection is viral -- and there are no signs of a secondary infection such as fever, lethargy, coloured discharge, etc. -- then supportive care is pretty much all you can do anyhow. Steam, keep fluids up, rest, reduce stress, eat good food... all the same things you would do as a person with a cold. 500--1000 mg of l-lysine amino acid mixed into food and water daily may help to reduce the speed at which the virus replicates *if* you are dealing with feline herpes virus. Of course a trip to the vet is the best thing you can do. Kittens can get VERY sick from URIs. Good luck.

Maybe if you call your vet and explain that the kitten has another infection, they will just sell you the pills without having to take the kitten in.My vet does this for me.Also, there is a product called "Viralys," which contains the amino acid L-Lysine,which helps to fight respiratory viruses in cats.If your vet won't sell you any,you can go to your local health food store and get L-Lysine capsules,250 mg. and give the kitten half the contents of a capsule twice a day.Mix it in with some tuna juice or other strong tasting fish, because not all cats like the taste,or you could put it into smaller gelatin capsules and just give the capsules.

Feeding warm broths ( chicken, turkey, beef) is good for cats with URI as it helps ease congestion and it's good for them as well. Good luck.

Call your vet and see if they will just write you a prescription without you having to bring the kitty into the vet. Then it will only be the cost of the medicine. I have done this with one of my dogs who has a recurring problem and needs medicine for it. Hopefully your vet will do this. If they won't, either borrow the money to take the cat to the vet or consider taking him to a shelter and giving him up. A no-kill shelter will give him the medical treatment he needs before putting him up for adoption. I know it can get expensive but making sure your pet has proper healthcare is part of of being a responsible pet owner. I hope your kitty gets better and that your vet is as helpful as mine was. Good luck to you!

Your vet may be willing to refill the prescription without an office visit. If your cat was in for the same thing recently, it's probably not a problem. Upper respiratory infections often take more than one cycle of antibiotics to cure.

No harm in calling and asking.

Sorry, but part of owning a pet is bringing it to the vet! There's nothing you can buy from the store for it, only your vet can help! I have a suggestion: Bring your cat to the vet, pay as much money as you have to, and give the cat away. Because you CLEARLY can't have a cat if you don't have money for the vet.

Sorry, but that's the truth!

Hope this helps!
Good luck!

If you cannot afford for your cat to be taken to the vet, you should not have gotten a cat. An upper respiratory infection can become a life-threatening illness if not treated properly. Many vets will set up a payment program- call around quickly.

My kitten got a TERRIBLE upper respiratory infection when I first got her. I brought to to the animal emergency room, and rather than giving me prescriptions, they gave my lysine. Kittens like the flavor and it is easy to give to them. It will help alot! However, if the URI does not get better, please take it to the vet, because it may become life-threatening. I ended up spending 800 dollars at the vet before my kitten got better.. so I understand where you are coming from.

Depending on how long it has been since his initial visit to the vet..they may be able to give you a refill without actually taking the cat in.
