If they believe their doctrine can be used a legal justification for banning gay marriage and abortion, then shouldn't things like worshipping other gods and watching sinful tv programs also be made illegal as well because a sin is a sin and unbelief is supposed to be the only unforgivable sin.

Because we live in a free country, and because God gave us free will in order to choose His way, not to be forced. Being forced to believe in Him is moot; it's pointless.

Good question,
America's founding fathers were still reeling from the sting of British Theocracy when they penned the Constitution.

The extreme Christian right is trying to create a theocratic government. They are so blinded that they are in bed with demons like Bush and Co. I don't think the original Apostles would even recognise them as followers of The Way.

These are dominionists who think that they have to establish the Kingdom of God on the earth before Jesus comes back. These will be the ones who will persecute gays lesbians and anyone else who opposes them including Christians who don't buy in to their evil theocracy.

They do not represent the Jesus of the simple Gospel.

Because thankfully, in the US, we have something called Separation of Church and State, and constitutional amendments called the Bill of Rights that prevents tyranny. It's supposed to anyways.

Unbelief is NOT the only unforgivable sin. The only unforgivable sin is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, which could be interpreted to mean anything. According to the Xians, that is.

Plus, I'd pack my bags and move out of the country...because the burning times would be back, and I wouldn't want to go out that way.

First of all no sin is unforgivible and if God gave us a choice to worship Him or not then Christians shouldent take that choice away either

Born/raised Catholic. Recently Taoist, but gravitating towards Judeo-Christianity.

In the sacred texts of Christians and Jews, it says that freedom is one of the biggest values. You can only go to heaven by CHOOSING to follow God.

Gay marriage doesn't need to be banned - it doesn't exist. Marriage is only possible between a man and woman. As for abortion, if we allow that then we should allow all other forms of murder too. We don't discriminate that way.

Jeremiah 34:15
Recently you repented and did what is right in my sight: Each of you proclaimed freedom to his countrymen. You even made a covenant before me in the house that bears my Name.

I'm sure they would like to, but they can't get around the Constitution that much. They can legislate portions of their beliefs, but to outlaw another religion would be a blatant violation of the first amendment, and they can't get away with that yet.

Because they aren't that intolerant.
Just because you disagree with someone does not mean you hate them.
I am sorry to hear that conservative Christians have hurt you and I hope that God can bring you to spread God's love in your unique way. God Bless.
