what do you think about people who give their pets up for adoptions for reasons such as their new apartment won't allow pets, or their dogs are misbehaving sometimes or because they will got a new job that requirees travelling? I feel angered at times coz a pet is not just something you get and then give away nor return when circumstances change.. I feel that when you adopt, you commit to give it a home forever, unless something drastically changes your circumstance and you have absolutely no choice but to give them up for their own good.. what about you? do you think it is justified or are most just looking for an easy escape from responsibility? Pet overpopulation rate and homelessness is just so high now that we cannot keep contributing to the problem..

The apartment thing I don't agree with... Find a place that will allow you to have your pet..The new job.. It might depend.. What if you have a family and you haven't had a great job for a long time and this is a chance of a life time.. I think in a case like that, it wouldn't be so bad, if you spent the proper time to find the perfect home and made sure that you had found a great family that would love your dog just as much as you do..

People giving up their dogs here and there for different reasons isn't the big problem with the shelters.. It's the fools that breed their pets to produce more pets, and their mutts to produce more mutts.. People who breed and don't take health or temperament into consideration when breeding and they produce dogs that people can't handle..

This is a subject that I just had to say something about...Here is how I c it..
I had 3 dogs until last saturaday when I had to make the hardest dicision any pet owner has to make. My 16 month old Chihuahua Zoey got parvovirus and went through 5 days of hospitalization and they thought she was good to go home but she had a relapse and I had to put her to sleep. I tell you this cuz, my dogs are not my "PETS" the are a part of my family my 4 legged kids and I would do anything for them and if that meant not taking that beautiful rental house b-cuz they didn't allow all my family to live there then I would find another place that would.. Getting a pet is a life time commitment...you wouldn't give your children away cuz the apartment doesn't allow kids would you...some would argue that..that is totally different but if more people thought that way there would be less homeless pet in this world...

Please vaccinate your 4 legged kids ... you would do it for your 2 legged ones its no different they can get deathly ill and die also... You should think long and hard BEFORE getting a pet ...can you afford the cost of food and health concerns and do you have the time to spend with the pet ... all they want is to please you...

I write in the memory of my Sweet Baby Zoey
who now runs in greener pastures....

yeah it gets annoying. and think if there is no other way around it then its best the pet finds a new home. i don't like when i see pets for FREE at very least people should ask for some money. and always have their pet fixed before finding it a home.

there are many home/apartment owners who don't want pets or kids even. because of other renters poor training or controling of kids or animals. I think the owners should ask for a pet/kid deposit on top of the normal one if they are so worried about damages. right now we are lucky but i know with all of our animal and 2 kids renting is not a choice. every place says no kids or pets.

noone take responsibility for what they do let alone a pet or kid does.....so less owners what pets in their places.

behaivor problem are what tick me off. TRAINING! is a big problem...seems noone knows what they are doing or don't want to put time in to a dog...they should be born knowing every thing ya know...grrrr.

a new job depends. i feel if they are being very picky about who gets the dog then great if its first come gets the dog not good.

byb need to be stopped its the only way to have less in shelters!

You say you get angry at people like that but it would be better that they put them up for adoption than go away for a certain amount of time and let that animal stay at home and eventually die. Sometimes people have to move, here in australia where I am we rent and we arent allowed to have cats or dogs so obviously we wouldnt have one, if we moved to another place that allowed a dog or cat and I had the time for one sure I would get one but then if I had to move again and the next place I went to didnt allow pets I would have to unfortunately get rid of it, it just depends on the circumstances and whether or not you have the time for the animal, if people get rid of the animal because the dog misbehaves then yes I agree that is completely wrong because they didnt take the time out to teach that animal the right and wrong things to do.

I think that this is a terrible excuse. If they know they've got to move, they need to do everything they can to find a place where their pet will be welcome, and if they can't ,then they should try and find a family member or friend who will keep the dog for them until they CAN find a place.Of course there are circumstances when this isn't possible, when someone gets very ill,or is put out of their home and can no longer care for the dog properly, but if I were to become homeless all of a sudden,I'd still try to keep my pets with me.I,too, feel that a pet is for life, just like a child.

I can see both sides to this issue. Sometimes problems arise and the dog is the one who suffers. If something like that does occur, than they should turn the dog over to someone who can fulfill the requirements of taking care of the animal. But people that just give up on their dog because it is not what they expected don't deserve their pet. You chose to have the dog, it didn't choose you.

I had to do that with a cat we raised from a kitten. He made such a fuss that the adoptees had to bring him back. We had to find the thousand dollars to move into a new place. Sometimes people don't have the resources to care for an animal. It shouldn't stop them from trying. Any home to them is better than the alternative.

I get annoyed by it. Some people return animals because they truly have no way to pay for the care s/he needs. I understand that, but other people just have plainly stupid excuses. One of my foster kittens was once adopted and returned days later because he was "more playful than they thought he'd be." I allways try to tell myself that at least the animal has a chance of a better life now, instead of being with someone who probably would end up not caring for them properly.

everyone wants a pet when they are little and cute, but at the first sign of a problem they are ready to dump them off on someone else, like shelters. it is a commitment for the life of the pet. why would you move into a place that would not allow pets in the first place, what if the place doesn't allow children, would you get rid of them too? please spay and neuter you pets.

What you have to remember is that there is no 100% right or wrong answer. In some cases, it is terrible when an owner gets rid of a dog like that, but other times, it can be a good thing.
