When she barks and you are nearby, shush her in a firm tone of voice. You may have to tap her on the shoulder to get her attention (not to hurt or hit her).

It will take time and patience on your part, but consistency will pay off.

Many dogs bark because they are bored, have excess energy, and are trying to entertain themselves.

1. Walk her daily, and play with her more, to use up that excess energy.

2. Check out a dog training book from the library to learn the principles of dog training.

3. Tell her "no" whenever she barks in a firm voice. Don't yell, you are going to have a hard time teaching her to be calm and quiet when you are loud and yelling. You may have to touch her to get her attention, but make eye contact and calmy say "no."

4. LAST RESORT: Buy a "determent" collar. They have ones that shock, spray citronella, or make a sound. These are further split up by ones that respond automatically and ones that use a remote. I recommend the remote controlled ones as a more effective training aid if you decide you must get collar.

My dog tends to do this too. I Clap my hands once, tell my dog NO Quiet! and put her in a different room than me for about 20 minutes if she continues barking. Then if she does it again I tell her No again and isolate her for about 20 minutes.
My dog hates being out of the main action of the house so it is a horrible punishment to her to be sent to my room or the backyard. I hope you find a good solution that works for you!

Don't use the bark collar. Some breeds bark a lot, it is normal. If you can't control it by telling them NO then consider having the vocal chords clipped. It is more humane than a shock collar. There is no pain involved and the dog doesn't even know you did it.

Is she an outside dog? Bringing her inside should solve the problem.

correct her every time and ignore her afterward....dogs hate to be ignored it's the worst punishment you can give a dog. Even if she starts barking at you ignore her...eventually she will learn that every time she barks she will be ignored afterward.
