I have a swollen gland on the left side of my neck under my ear. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and I'm a real big worrier. I went to the doctor this past week and he said it was like a cold or sinus infection and prescribed me an anti-biotic. However I've taken all of my prescription and the gland is still swollen. It doesnt feel too big but it's pretty firm to hard. Also I have a runny nose, and a small sneeze and a rare cough every now and then. The only reason why I'm asking is because after the anti-biotic it hasn't gone down, but it isn't painful just kind of hard. Anyone have any ideas?

Don't worry. It's probably due to your cold. Lymph nodes swell all the time in response to infection. It can take some time for it to reduce in size, and if you mess with it too much, like pressing on it, you can actually make it worse and there's a chance it can stay that way permanently! So don't fondle it, and give it at least 2 weeks. If after that it's still there, go back to the doctor and tell him you want him to take a closer look at it. Don't just let it go. Make sure you keep an eye on it. Better safe than sorry.

Well, I'm sure it's just an uncommon sickness. If you would have had mono, then you would have had really bad vertigo (a spinning/dizzy sensation which includes nausea and vomiting). What I recommend is seeing a doctor about your sickness. I don't know much, but I heard going to a doctor as soon as possible could save you the trouble of getting more infected by not going.

You may need another antibiotic. They don't all work for everyone. You can try Sudifed over the counter to clear up your sinuses. Check with your doctor again, you may need to be examined again.

Get a second opinion. Stop worrying, that does not solve anything.
