My dad said that you could hook up the hd cables to a regular tv and have a little better quality, is this true?

I'm interested in buying a lcd, but the cheapest one is like 200 bucks so I i'm just wondering if hd is even possible a little bit on a regular tv.

No. There is absolutely no way to get an HD picture( even a little bit) on a regular TV, no matter what cables you hook up to it. You will need an HDTV , either HD-Ready ( no built-in HD tuner-use HD cable box for this type) or the HDTV with fully integrated HD tuner in it, to get an HD picture.

NO....SIGNAL has EVERYTHING to do with it.

A low def signal gets you a Low Def picture
A Hi Def signal gets you a Hi Def picture...

And if you're buying a $200 LCD...I wouldn't expect it to be Hi Def at all....it's going to be a 480 line display --640 x 480 if it's a computer based monitor....

A TV set should be able to recieve a 720 line or a 1080 line signal First and Foremost.
BUT the NATIVE RESOLUTION OF THE DISPLAY is what is MORE IMPORTANT, IF you want an HD picture.....

Every part of your TV system must be capable of recieving, processing and DISPLAYING a 1080 or 720 line signal....From the DISPLAY to the Input connection on your TV to the BOX that's processing the signal to the SIGNAL ITSELF....

Every part must be HD capable.....

No

Digital standard definition TV (coming from satellite or cable) can make a big difference, but there is no way for an SD TV to play HD content.
