I just love her silky jet black fur.
And she just loves running out side & swimming.

Of course, I want her to be happy & will not keep her penned up just to keep the sun from bleaching her fur.
I've seen what her hair will look like. Two of my other dogs went through this. But her fur is so pretty, I was hoping to avoid it with her.
It is lake water, not a pool that she swims in.

It is the sun. It is natural. As her coat blows out and comes back in, it will be black again. I have had Belgian Sheepdogs for 25 years and they are black. It will be ok. Just enjoy playing with her outside and at the lake.

That also happens to people hair (I can attest to that), so no, I don't think there is any way to prevent that (although as an above poster said, it could have a lot to do with the food you feed her). I think you should stop worrying about how much you love her jet black fur and let her have all the fun she wants outside in the sunshine.

some of it could be from the sun fading her coat, but most likely it is her diet. if you feed a low cost food with a lot of additives or dyes it will make a black dog's coat turn red. if it is a pool that she swims in, it could be the chlorine.

It is the diet which is turning the colors,,, but,, you may also,,try applying a thin coat of olive oil before your pet goes out in the sun,,, with the olive oil,, it seems the black remains as it is,, and avoids,,, fading the real color away,,,

I think you ought to leave it alone. Dog's hair lightens in the sun just like ours does. It's summertime! Let her outside and let her swim and have a good time.

You feed Iams or Eukanuba?? That tends to turn their coat red when they get out in the sun..

Makde sure there is no chemical on her fur, do you brush and bath her ?
let her have fun, who cares what color her fur is ?
Take care of her and love HER ! she depends on you to do that.
when she's in sun, is shade available and water to her always ? Important that you make sure it is.
