As you may or may not know, there is a great abundance of trolls in the vegetarian and vegan section. What I keep hearing is that they do this because of answers that vegetarians and vegans give to their questions about meat dishes in the other food and drink sections. Now, I don't frequent the other sections of food and drink much, but I have never noticed this. Can anyone tell me if there is any truth to this or not? And, either way, do you think we could call a truce? I'm sick and tired of seeing all these stupid, offensive questions and the admins never deleting them.

Personally, I love food in general. I post in other sections of the Food and Drink only b/c I answer questions that I happen to know the answer to or I believe I have good insight b/c I've experienced certain things before.
Loving to cook is a universal thing....I even answer questions about meat - like chicken and fish - only because I was still preparing and eating that a number of years ago. Just b/c I don't currently eat certain things doesn't mean I don't know anything about it.
I never, NEVER tell people they're wrong for eating meat. I don't get preachy about vegetarianism, animal rights or health issues regarding the consumption of meat and dairy products. I do feel strongly about those topics, but I stick to the question and I strive to help people...not hurt them or tick them off. I'm sure that many times, the question askers don't even know I'm a vegetarian. If it goesn't have anything to do with their question, it's a moot point.
The saying about a few bad apples seems to apply here...just b/c someone saw an inappropriate post in the general food section, they think that all V&Vs are like that, but we aren't.
I agree with your asking for a truce. Maybe when meat-eaters see someone being rude to them, they can take the matter up with THAT specific person rather than come and wreck havoc on an entire section....and vice versa.
According to Yahoo! community guidelines, people need to be 13 years or older to post....everyone needs to grow up and prove they meet the age requirements. lol.

I visit V&V occasioinally. The extremes that some of the vegans (especially) propose or embrace are a sure invitation to trolls. To me they are beyond any vestige of reason.
I've read statements that value animal life/rights over human life. Generalizations abound as do obsessing about foods, the injustice of ominivores, sanctimony, grandiosity and general lack of a measured approach to advice and questions. Credentialed professionals are disparaged, scientific studies except those that support their position are eschewed, and definitions of who/what is vegan/vegetarian is stated by those who make bizarre truth claims. Moderation and reason are out the window.
The extremists on the V&V forum will continue to be an attraction for trolls. Get rid of the extremists or at least don't support their extremism and the trolls will largely disappear. But the reality is that is not going to happen.
YA monitors aren't helping either. They are just as reactionary as the extremists and trolls. Anyone can file an "abuse" complaint . . . and sure enough YOU will lose 10 points. There really is no discernment.
I lost points only once and my answer was so innocuous among the rants as to be almost invisible. I just shook my head.
You are right, very little or none of this contentiousness exist on other forums, IMO.

It's not true,I've had an account on here since like June of last year(got deleted)..I just go through food and drink to see any v&v questions, because sometimes people post them here instead of v&v and I don't want the only answers they get to be "you need meat" or "you can't get enough protein with eating meat"...once in a while someone might, but I've only seen it a couple of times. The only one that I can remember that stands out was one question that said "So,what's your excuse for not being a vegetarian?" and it wasn't even a vegetarian who posted it,the chick who posted the question put in the details that she wasn't even a vegetarian.
I couldnt find the old one I was talking about but here is one(posted by someone who is non-veg)

I also remember some people who were trolling in v&v saying that people were going through the hunting section and trolling,he said that he was only getting back at us,but I've looked through the hunting section and never seen any trolls,I'm sure there are some but not everyday like they are in v&v.

The trolls just like picking categories where they know the people are passionate about the subject. I don't know about the V & V section, since I'm not either, but the NASCAR section is crawling with them. My 13 yr. old son frequents that section, and I'm so glad he is mature enough to know how to ignore the ignorance. The problem is, if the trolls get trounced, they just get a new profile, there's really no way to stop them forever.

I'm a troll!! Pick me!!! Pick me!!
It's fun to pick on people that get upset...that is what feeds trolls...just forget about them and eventually they (we) will get bored. Religious people are the same way. As soon as someone say, "God is a dumb, dirty hobbit and should be set on fire" everyone gets all upset. Like, God really needs a bunch of religious wanna-be's for protection!!
Seriously, chill out about the dumb trolls and eventually they will leave you alone...

The main problem appears to be the large number of V&V's who use the section for political and religous posts instead of sticking to food and drink. That, of course, attracts the detractors and trolls who post offensive material in retaliation.
