What can cause sudden back pain?

The pain is low down on my left hand side - it has been about a week. It pretty much hurts all the time. I've tried heat, ice, muscle relaxers, Aleve. Nothing seems to be helping. I did not pull it or do anything acute to cause it. Any ideas?

Sometimes parts of the spine being out of alignment such as the sacrum (one of the lower areas of the back) can cause pain. Also, pulled or strained muscles can cause this. Because of how long you have had the symptom I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think is going on.
