Your basic and AIT is together then if you are in infantry. Once your training is over with, you will have the opportunity to go home if you want to. You will have to pay for your ticket home though.

You need to specify to these people that infantrymen is an OSUT (one station unit training) which means your basic training and AIT is all at the same time. after you complete OSUT you usually are given the choice to take leave or go straight to your unit. When your recruiter is sending you off, you go in regular commercial airplanes. But after basic, you have to pay your way home. Dont worry about that though, by then you would have all your paychecks you didnt use in basic to pay for that.

The Army will bus you to meps, fly you to Georgia, bus you to Fort Benning.
Infantry training is one station OSUT training.
You will go directly from Basic to advanced infantry training.
If you volunteered for Jump School, you will then go to Jump School.
You will then be given two weeks leave, before you report to your first unit.
The Army will pay you to go from Fort benning to your first Unit. Either a airline ticket, or per-diem travel pay.
You have to pay for yourself to get home on leave.

Depends where your AIT is and when you have to be there. Usually you might get a week or two. I believe you have to pay for your own way home and back to Ft Benning.

99% of the time there is NO time off after Basic, you would go straight to School. Transportation will be provided, usually Plane or bus, depending on how close you are.

You can never go wrong with a good meal (specially after basic training :-> ). You could decorate the house with baloons and candles. Or maybe he would be more happy with a wellcome home party, with all his friends around him. Just use your immagination. Think about things that he really enjoys, you will come up with something... :-)

The odds are you will go direct to Ft. Benning. You'll get leave after AIT.
If you get leave after basic they will give you travel pay from basic to Ft. Benning. It's up to you to get to your hometown for leave and then to Ft. Benning for duty.

More than likely, you won't get any downtime between basic and your initial training.
I didn't when I joined the US Navy. I graduated boot camp on a Friday, and began my classes for my job on Monday.
