I forgot to add that in this case the soul has to be viewed as far more complex than a man-made program. The idea is that, if it has to be speculated, can the analogy of information traveling through space apply to human spirit?

Please also consider that each 'program' is unique, and at some level the program can receive signals from other programs as well as trojans, viruses, spyware removers from cosmic forces of good and evil. That could be one reason that some us have the propensity to believe and other do not. The brain then functions as the filter.

To Dick Jones:

Interesting questions/observations. Regarding your first question, my answer would be that the program develops itself and makes choices based on memory [acquired bad memories could engender bad decisions]. Regarding your second question, I guess does send reports constantly, and that is why in some religions it is said that God knows everything. When the "box" (the body) is dead, the program no longer exists on it, as it's transferred to another realm (server) where it's kept until it can be downloaded into another box (the body). Please keep in mind we are dealing with analogies.

That's actually a pretty interesting analogy. It doesn't create as many moral and logical problems as does the belief of the eternal human soul that is judged by God based upon the free will choices of the being that it inhabits.

If our souls were computer programs, we would not be subject to judgement, since we would not be entities with free will, but merely memory gathering machines. All questions of good and evil would be moot.

Also, it provides for a sort of immortality as your experiences are not lost when you die, but become part of God's larger memory bank.

Although, just in the few minutes I've been thinking about it, a question comes to mind. Why would the soul have to go back to God after death in order for God to receive the memories? Why couldn't they be transmitted on a continuting basis, as we experience them?

I guess the question would then be, "Can humans be viewed as soulless sensory organs of God?"

Well, obviously you are able to formulate the question, so yes, but is it accurate to view the soul as computer program? Gimma break. It's far, far advanced of some man made concoction. No human can duplicate life, much, much less the soul which can withstand the literal function of carrying you from time and space through all the intervening levels into eternity and infinity.

It's actually advanced science which proves why the soul is the way it is what it is -- still theoretic to science, but there is amazing research!

I don't know where you get it from, that man has a soul, God made man a living soul, and put a little spirit in him to make him different, with the help of that spirit, man can thank, and do all the other things animals can't. You know animals are soul
Genesis 2:7 > And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (being).
Soul can be used for any part of the body.

Probably he gets a DNA sample to remake your body in the resurrection. Then he gets a computer chip of the part of the brain that you actually used and then he deletes the bad stuff.
If there is anything left you have a chance to be resurrected.
If everything is deleted cause it is all bad. He throws away the DNA. Cause your not coming back.
If you got a chance then you get your name put in a book of life.

Ha, awesome Question dude!!

only if this soul has been granted access into the heavenly 'super computer'

but whilst mixing with spam, false users, viruses and worms, we are not worthy to enter,

Only Jesus 'the gatekeeper' has the keypass code for us to enter this most holy place. and we must accept his request to register with him before God pulls the plug. so that our names be recorded in the surver of life.

No. A program suggests equality. Not all individuals that pass over have equality. Plus they don't go to God.They have to pass through many portals before they reach that beautiful place.

The soul can be viewed as a computer program that crashes when the computer crashes.

only problem is, the soul's destination is determined by it's motives and actions, not pre-programmed or choiced sending.
