Well, it is good to know that many know the answer to this key question. Only trees and plants actually separate the carbon from the oxygen and bury the carbon in the soil.
Oceans only store the Carbon Dioxide but do not break it down and when the ocean temperature goes up, the CO2 will come out of solution.
It took human activity burning coal and oil only 200 years to fill up the oceans with CO2.
The main point is that the only "solution" is to stop burning carbon (in coal and oil) and plant more trees and preserve the rain forests.
It has been known for a long time that if we stopped using fertilizers and used no-till farming, this would make a bigger difference than the proposed increase in car engine efficiency. But, the big chemical companies rather make a profit and burn up with us. Go figure!

Not all trees reduce global warming. The net effect of forests above 20 degrees latitude in the Northern Hemisphere is an INCREASE in global warming.

Trees are like the lungs of the earth, but the breathe in CO2 and Oxygen out. Thereby helping to keep the natural balance of gases in the atmosphere (that includes CO2).

SO, GO AND PLANT SOME TREES!!!!!!!! ;)

Trees produce humidity
with precipitation

Absorb carbon.
Filter the air.

Absorb heat during the day,
generate heat during the night
and so regulate the climate.

Provide shade/shelter.

Take the energy out of storms.

And a lot more such as make soil
and add water to subterranean water supplies,
not to speak of the food and material uses
and leaving us oxygen to breathe.

hm..well trees their alive like jus us, but they give off oxygen..and u have many people who cut them down. If we didnt have trees, we wouldnt be able to survive, I wouldnt say that trees really help stop global warming, u also have to prevent littering, and burning lots of energy...Global warming cant be stopped if everyone in the WHOLE wide world put their minds to it, and its obviously impossible, even though its always good to jus to your own part

Trees release oxygen during photosynthesis so I guess they help to make the air a little pure if you will...so the more trees and less pollution the more the ozone layer protects the earth .

Well trees take in CO2 and give off oxygen I believe the more trees we plant the better.

they don't. yet many human beings think of (wrongly) that they do. They get rid of CO2 from the air and make wood out of it, which sounds good, actual? because of the fact they take CO2 out of the air. yet timber basically stay some hundred years. while they die the wood will decay and the CO2 will circulate actual returned into the air. Corals and shell fish do a extra constructive interest. They take CO2 out of the air and make coral reefs and shells from it. while the animals die, the left over reef or shell can final virtually constantly, particularly if the shells are coated by sediments.

they take in co2 and give off O2. they also brovide shade which eliminates of grounds absorption of solar heat. the water vapor given off by leaves also defuses some of the heat absorbed by the tree.

I better make this statement before a denier labels these answers as simple propaganda:

plants intake CO2 and O2 and release CO2 and O2, they intake more CO2 than they release.
