out of town and my husband told him where he was going and his brother ask who was going with him and he told him i was. if the brother didn't care to go then why does it matter who he was going with.

Maybe he figured if nobody was going, he might get to go along. Maybe he wondered if your husband was taking his not-so-insecure girlfriend. Maybe he wanted to come see you while husband was away. Maybe not.
