Doesnt it make more sense for them to hit the homeland instead of fighting well trained and armed soldiers? All they have to do is walk across the open border with canada and they can be back in NYC in hours.

Well yeah but our boys and girls are keeping them so busy in Iraq that they do not have much if any time to try and plan an attack here in America. We are keeping ourselves in the enemies decision making process. By US troops being over there they are more concerned with their family's and friend's and home land area than with the US. So it is kinda keeping them a little busy. The sad thing is that it is not keeping them all busy. I am sure there are some Al-Queda here in the US. They are just not able to do much due to the amount of surveillance and so on that our government is keeping on them.

If they could've hit us, they would have already. The good thing about how these people operate is that they want to launch highly public, symbolic attacks, each better then the last. What could top 9/11?

9/11 was their downfall because after that, they can't expect to realistically make larger attacks then that. Ergo, if they can't top their own attacks, they're not going to waste their operatives on suicide missions that will get them no points here. Besides, our government does a good job of terrorizing the public with their alerts and notices.

Also, of course they could get here easily. I don't know why people complain so much about open borders or want more checks at airports or whatnot. These people are professionals, often trained by professional intelligence agencies. They are quite adept at forging documents, faking identities, anything they have to do to get in legally. The problem is not getting here, it is actually doing something worth a damn here.

All that involves recon, planning, specialized training in whatever they're going to do, the acquisition of equipment, and, kind of important, the execution. Oh, and they can't get caught.

Short answer, it's hard. Slightly longer answer, it takes initiative, training, money, and experience is preferred. And I assure you, every single Jihadist that we don't kill in Iraq and Afghanistan is going to come back and bite us in the ***, because they will have all of the above.

Again, this is why we are there.

We have been under attack by Islamic extremists for over 30 years. Look back to the Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut, to the Iranian hostage standoff, countless embassy bombings, WTC bombing, USS Cole, 9/11. When will it end? The idea of taking out Hussein, did not have anything to do with 9/11 i agree, but the ends do justify the means here in my eyes. Here is why.

Since we have sent our troops to Iraq, where have the terrorist attacks against the U.S. occured? - In Iraq, on their own side of the world. Terrorist groups from all over the Middle East are focusing their efforts against U.S. forces in Iraq. THAT IS THE PLAN. If they want to fight us fine, we'll have the fight, but instead of having them taking up arms (or airplanes) against innocent U.S. civilians, we are sending our professional military to do the job it was meant for - to destroy our enemies.

Nope, they are doing the smart thing....

Modern warfare has changed forever. Now, wars are fought "among the people" (remember Vietnam? Same deal).

It is part of the political strategy to win the war by making the US do terrible things to the general population.

It's a war for hearts and minds and cannot be won by a highly technical army.

Al Queda understands this, but we don't (yet).

So we can't win in Iraq and Al Queda can't really lose....unless we pull out, and then the Iraqis will deal with Al Queda as only they know how....again....that "civil war" will be among the people and fought with words, politics, economics and small arms.

For the same reason no other LEGITIMATE nation on the Earth has dared to invade us since the War of 1812; because of every red-blooded, gun carrying, liberty loving private citizen who owns and bear arms, ...as is their 5th amendment right. You think guerrilla warfare is bad in Iraq? I dare ANYONE to bring their bullshit to the shores of the good ol' USA. They don't need to fear the Marine Corps or the Army, ...but they'd better bring a lot of friends to defeat the good ol American citizens who'd be dug in to defend his or her home.

All we know about that group is what we are told by Major TV and newspaper news sources, the same ones that told us that saddam attacked us and that he had wmd.

so, it is quite possible that we have overestimated their capabilites.

That and living in America isnt all that bad when you come here and live for a while.
