I think so. A lot of the myths used to be religions, and the religions that are still around have a lot of myths in them, like the creation myth and the flood myth.

And before anyone yells at me or flags me, let me just say that though I am an atheist I mean no harm. The stories in the various holy texts are often referred to as myths by believers, because a lot of religions and cultures have a myth about a flood or creation or something.

NO.

Religion and spirituality are practiced today. Mythology is often compared to pagan or "dead religions". But myth has more in common with folklore than with religion. Folklore is not spiritual in a general sense.

I vote to keep the two sections as they are.

Mythology is quite different from Folklore. Mythology set Moral guide lines, harmonious customs, family traditions for social living through mythological charectors. The charectors stand ideal for forth coming generations to lead a glorious lilfe. Till 20th century people worshiped those mythological charectors as gods and enriched their lives, still are fallowing the same. With the advent of scientific questioning and logical thinking for each and every thing, those charectors driven to background and care free life taken in it's place, resulting to physical and moral degradation.
Folklore stories created with midieval backdrop with kings and queens, their love saga, entry of tantriks, adventures and so on. These were created to entertain the mass at the public gatherings at night after days hard work and while on their way to pilgrimages. Folklore is an entertainment medium in olden days.
Religion is a belief of people about god. Each Religion has it's own way to know god. ultimately all the Religions speak about god only , but the routes are different.
Spirituality is quite different from Religion. It is knowing about one's own self. Religion need spirituality, but spirituality need no Religion.
All these things are based on belief. If the belief is strong we experince the bliss of spirituality. Atheism ask for the photo copy of everythig. How can we show the LIFE, the prana shakthi. How can we show Ayaskantha shakthi, the magnetic force. How can we show Spiritual Power, athma shakthi. They are existing without any form or appearence. Can we deny them.

ROFL...so original! I haven't read a question like that in umm.....six hours; and before that...4 hours! I wouldn't flag or yell; I'm too consumed by my laughter. Do *some* of you non-believers get together and decide to post the same question? Cuz that seems like a waste of points. Or is that just the only thing you can think of?

Actually I think Yahoo should sub-divide the R&S section into specific religious and spiritual subjects.

Well if that's how you feel let me ask, do you spend more time, as an atheist, here or in mythology and folklore?

No! The people in M&F have even less of a sense of humor than the R&S people. If you bring them together, it'll be like... water and oil. Where the oil is on fire. And there are baby seals.

Please, think of the baby seals.
