We live out in the semi country on 3.5 acres. We put our cat out every night. He is 8.5 yrs old and is fixed. He is usually at the front door in the AM. Then one day he was no where to be found. No fur lying around on the ground, no strange smells, no buzzards flying around.

Unfortunately yes.
And we were very sad because he didn't come back.
We looked everywhere, to no avail.
Hopefully, yours will be back. Sometimes they just get to wander a little farther off. Or maybe he has found something that keeps him away and as soon as he gets bored, he'll back.
It has also happened.
GOOD LUCK!

Yes,
my cat has been gone for 4 weeks. I've had dreams that he came home. I hope he is o.k. Back in 1980 my sisters cat was missing for months. Then one day he came limping home. It was like a miracle. If cats are lost and injured, they are able to heal there wounds and find there way home.

He could come home..he could possibly be stuck somewhere like someones garage or some other place where he can not get out of. He could also have been hit by a car, poisoned, gotten eaten or attacked by a wild animal or dog, etc. If you let your cat roam freely outside...you must be prepared for the fact that it may one day never come back.

He could have been hit on the road, caught in a trap, killed by a neighbor's dog, trapped in some neighbor's garage or tool shed, killed by an owl or coyote, the list is endless.

All we'd be doing is guessing. Nobody here is psychic.

It's possible he left, but I doubt it. Just give it another day and I'm sure it'll show up. My cats left my house for a couple days but always returns.
